I was riding DDG-3 / USS John King while in the reserves, and got to conn during a man-overboard drill. The goal is to get as close to Oscar as you can, to windward of him. I hit him with the stem. So, driving skills, still ok. Empathy for Oscar, not so much.

You can drive right back to Oscar in a cruiser or smaller, IF you know immediately when they went over. Even a couple minutes delay would make finding him or her with the ship pretty dicey. A carrier? If the helo's don't find him, he's got almost no chance at all.
