Check Frys for emailed deals on receivers. For speakers check Paducah Hme Theater for good pricing on Klipsch. For a sub, a Monoprice Monolith 10 will really rock your room. Look for Ebay sitewide 15-20% coupons for the best deal on them. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Oz_Shadow,

In the past I have always gone the least expensive option on the power source. This time I'm considering an Onkyo TX-NR686, Denon AVR-S940H, or Yamaha RX-V685. Now my question is can you run a non 4K television on these modern receivers? _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

Yes. That 940 should be found on sale around 400.

I've built multiple good systems for less than 3k. Check out craigslist for good deals on used speakers and subs and invest in a good surround receiver. I think my next investment will be some Klipsch reference speakers.

I picked up an Onkyo tx-NR676 for about 40 percent off. Very pleased. No sense in setting it up until the center speaker (DT Pro 1000) arrives. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

I hate my Denon. It sounds great, but the interface is bad beyond all description. I ignored all the warnings because I owned and even sold Denon gear in college for several years, but the GUI on my receiver is truly awful. Unless they've changed, stay far away... I put a Denon in my parents house a few years back, same experience. Nice quality unit, but terrible interface. My Yamaha is a bit better (but long in the tooth).

First I've heard of anyone complaining about current Denon "interface". It's super easy to run the Audyssey EQ setup with the phone app. I wish I knew the OP was getting that DT center channel - I have one sitting in the box along with a pair of Pro Monitor 800's looking for a home. -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks

Denon has gotten better - more graphical. Some research is still needed but Audyssey does 90% of the work for you. I like the app and web interface too. FYI - the center channel is the most important speaker in the system for tv and movies. I'd start there with a good one and add others as you are able.

Good to hear it's gotten better, it really couldn't have gotten worse. Even the remote is busy and confusing on mine. Trying to figure out how to do something you might not do every day requires the manual and 15 minutes to figure out, and sometimes even that's not enough.
