I was at the park with my son today, as it was a nice balmy mid 50's out. As he played in the sandbox with another child, I got to talking with the other dad there.

Do you think he was sad to leave Venezuela, or that he believes America should do any of those things?

Consider also we're outside metro Boston.

Was this guy a leftist?

Nope.

He also was for border security, and a host of other sensible policies. I'd say that because he came here legally, he's even more of an American than the self important elitist leftist dongs that make up most of the right hand side of MA.

He's been here for about 15 years, has family over there and is trying to get them out.

Authoritarian Socialism doesn't appeal to him at all, I can't imagine why not. He expressed puzzlement with those who believe that our government need go farther to the left.

This fellow was an engineer, but his feelings mirror most of those whom I've chatted with who have come here the right way. Most of the folks I meet are in the trades.

Folks who have actually lived in places like Venezuela and China, other commie nations, understand that there IS NO right way to do Socialism. Inevitably you just end up with an autocratic cult of personality, of one shade of another. Where you have party elites and a nation of serfs.

We need more Americans like him. People who appreciate what Freedom is.

I feel like more than any other time, ever, it really now should boil down to:

If you don't love America, get the fuck out.

I'm perfectly happy if this country is full of legal immigrants. They WANT to be here, and appreciate that while imperfect, it sucks way less here than a whole lot of other places in the world.

Illegal immigrants, and leftists, can fuck off. Socialism doesn't work as a system of government, there are mass graves in a lot of countries to prove that. Oh, and Venezuela.

My family is from the Philippines and both my parents immigrated here LEGALLY. My father served in the US Navy and my mother was a registered nurse. Both became proud US CITIZENS. When my grandmother came over she told me stories of how when President Marcos came into power in the Philippines, one of the first things he did was outlaw gun ownership. Then he proclaimed martial law. My grandmother eventually also became a proud US CITIZEN at the age of 80 !!! God Bless Smile

Man, you should talk with my second generation legal immigrant Cuban neighbors about illegal immigration. Eek He's a doctor and she's an office manager for their practice, and both have gone as far as to suggest anyone crossing the border illegally should be shot. They make me and my positions sound a bit liberal. Smile

Arc, you hit the nail on the head. Those who followed the law and immigrated here legally seem to have a love for this country and what it stands for that's quite different than the leftist garbage in this country would have us believe.

My wife gets mad when people including Republicans talk up “merit” immigration, e.g. encourage engineers, doctors to immigrate. She points out that many good people are willing to work very hard and work their way up the old-fashioned way, whereas “merit” immigrants are likely to feel entitled and join the anti-American crowd.

We have as friend from Kenya. Came here in his late 20's with his wife and son. Both worked as care givers in nursing homes. He went to school here and got an occupational therapy degree while working full time. We are godparents to their son. They came here legally and do not agree with all the illegal immigration.
