I strongly support those tourniquets. They can be applied one-handed, and quickly utilized with near zero training. The real training needed is when to apply vs not apply. Improper decision can cost a limb, improper decision can cost a life. A little training goes a long way.

I keep two on my med bag, one in every blow-out kit, 1 on my EDC bag, one on every armor kit, and batman belt. I want to be able to get to at least 2 if I need them. Keep a sharpie close at hand also.

Remember - do NOT apply any kind of a tourniquet to the neck.

And don’t never by a C-A-T from the counterfeiters on Amazon.

There are many sellers of authentic medical supplies — buy there.

I have one in my motorcycle tank bag. I have one on my belt while volunteering with the police. I have one at church in a common locker for the incident response team.

I concur with the training reocmmendation.
Current EMT Training Modules recommend applying a tourniquet if direct pressure & elevation does not stop the bleeding... -They jump right past Pressure Points, and recommend to apply the tourniquet quickly.

When ask about the the training that we had received for the last 20 years, that basically stated "Only Apply a Tourniquet as a Last Resort"; we were told that modern medical advances have a much higher success rate of saving the extremity. They are slamming CATs on like it's going out of style.

I thought this thread was going to be about heavy machinery.

Please take it out of the wrapper and set it up to be used. Rubber band it together ready to apply one handed. I've demonstrated to more than a few folks that they would be dead before they could rip open the wrapper one handed and self apply.

This. Also practice putting it on yourself. Or others. Get it high into the crease and the person should wince on that first pull. That first pull is the most important. The biggest mistakes I see people make is not getting it high enough, and not getting it tight enough on the first pull.

But, no internet advice ever replaces taking good training on how to put them on.

I assisted our medics in putting on a class last year. Two weeks later, a small child was ran over by a mower. It amputated her leg below the knee. She was almost gone when two of our guys rolled up, they put on a TQ. She’s alive today because of those boys.

I swell with pride at the job they did and choke up a little when I think about it.
