My wife and I are in Twin Falls tonight and tomorrow, then probably driving to Salt Lake tomorrow night. We’ll have one day there, I think. What should we do?

We are not Mormon and no kids with us, this trip.

Walk around the Temple (I'm not Mormon either but it is nice to see in person once )

Also, if you drive up the hill (behind the capitol?) and around those [really nice] homes, note how wide the streets are. My brother once told me it was to provide room for the horse drawn buggies to turn around.

Park City - get a burger (you shuold be able to find the place) and walk around and enjoy the sights. Personally, when my company sends me there for meetings, I always try to get up there but, there's never any snow when I go.

Our adult son lives there. Here’s something off the wall - the largest Costco in the world is at 1818 S 300 W in Salt Lake City. It’s about double a regular size store. We hit it once a year.

Kindig it design has their shop. Custom car shop that is on Motortrend Channel. They give great tours and have cools cars

Bar called Lake Effect has a lot of beer to choose from and live music. Pretty cool place a couple blocks from the Hilton hotel downtown.

If you can spare 45min to 1hr drive, try to visit Olympic Park. That is where they held the 2002 Winter Olympics. If you are into zip lines, they have a multi level zip line from the top of the mountain.

I was just there and in Park City for work. Lots of good places to eat including Finn's Cafe (Norwegian breakfast/brunch), Moochie's Meatball House, The Red Iguana, etc. A good rare book store is Ken Sanders Rare Book store, if you are into that sort of thing. If I had to pick a large city to move to, SLC would be on a short list.

Ahem… are fireworks for sale year round in any of the these western states? Idaho half the day today, Utah later today, Nevada (vegas) later this week?

My kids would love it if I can find some more sparklers for the. We used up the last of our stash a few weeks ago.

You’d have to drive to Evanston, Wyoming to find fireworks this late in the year. It would blow your day for the most part.

Temple Square is undergoing serious construction. You could wonder around/in the Conference Center. You’ll get as much or little attention as you want. The Hill Air Force base museum would be a good choice. You could also drive out to the Bonneville Salt Flats. You could then hop over to Wendover for lunch/dinner.

Another option would be to detour to Logan instead of Salt Lake. Buy some Aggie ice cream and chocolate and Gosner Cheese. Then drive through Logan Canyon to Bear Lake which is a Scenic Byway and typically quite beautiful this time of the year. From the Bear Lake Valley, head south east to Evanston to pick up your fireworks and then head to Park City for dinner. Afterwords, you could head into Salt Lake for the night and tour Temple Square or the Conference Center depending on the time.

Go into the University Of Utah, then into the Anthropology museum.

There you'll find an authentic pair of eskimo mukluks on display that have seen quite a bit of wear.

And on the card in front of them, you'll see the donor's name...my name.

I wore them for a couple of years.

When I lived there from 2006 - 2011, Pat's was the BBQ.

There is an Indian Reservation outside Las Vegas (about 45 min drive from North of the strip) that sells fireworks year round AFAIK. Google Valley of Fire State Park. As soon as you take the exit, there is a gas station with a small casino, https://www.moapatravelplaza.com/ They do sell fireworks. I think they even let you fire it on their land. I would call them first. Their website says you can order online and they will notify you if it is ready for pick up.

Valley of Fire is also a nice park to visit. you may get lucky and see mountain goats.

No seriously, there's really not a whole lot to see/do for the out-of-towner, I visited SLC several times a year for a decade. Its a fantastically clean and well kept downtown area, everyone is quite nice and there's been quite a few improvements over the last 20-years from boring downtown to, not quite as boring downtown, however, its not geared for tourism or, out-of-towners, whereas Park City is.

Is it a posh, upscale environment, yes, however there's a much, much better variety of restaurants to choose from, many more places to relax, get a drink and not get hassled over the state's liquor laws, along with plenty of window shopping and strolling about. SLC has fraction of that but, it's all spread out; think San Jose lots of neighborhoods and industrial/corporate areas but, little else. Your trip you're driving all over the West, you're looking to get out of the driver seat and stretch your legs, check out the local scene.

I was just in SLC a few weeks ago for dinner with my son and DIL. Lots up happening places to eat.

I would also for vote Hills AFB museum or Park City. Temple Square is under construction and visitor center has been torn down and under reconstruction.

Uh, the Mormons don't drive horse drawn buggies, at least since prob the 1800's. Possibly has them mixed up with the Amish.
