We picked fiberglass for a front entry door for less maintenance. Paint every couple of years and be good I thought.
Had it put in when we bought the house 4 years ago. Painted on install and about 2 years ago. Was giving it the once over to get ready to paint again and the bottom corner is soft as can be I can poke my finger right into it. Feels like sticking your finger in thick oatmeal.
Is this normal for a fiberglass door? Am I wrong in thinking there do not rot especially only after 4 years?

I don't know, but I have a front door that is fiberglass that was installed 8 or 10 years ago, and there are no soft spots anywhere in it. I know, because I'm prepping to paint it next weekend.

We bought a fiberglass door and it is a total POS. It wasn't cheap either. We had the front door open and our deck door open. A big gust of wind came up, blew through the house, and forced the front door to slam shut. Multiple cracks in it now. We're in the process of replacing it with a wood door. What a PIA. Not a rot story but pretty much a bummer for us.

Then what is the best kind of door to get? I've been fighting rot on our door too. Nothing I do stops it.

No idea.
We replaced a wood setup that was rotted after 12 years (likely earlier) but the previous owners just left it.
I thought fiberglass while not as pleasing to the eye as wood but when kept painted would hold up for a very long time.
This was a full out custom double side light, arched transom, and door. All had to be custom made because it was a wonky size.
Pretty spendy so I guess I will call the company tomorrow.

I can only guess that something in the environment is degrading it. Or it is stressed at the soft spot.

I imagine they have wood stringers inside them...places to attach the hinges and locks....that’s probably what is rotten...you may want to see how wet the area really is. And possibly get some guttering to keep water away from the front door area in the future.

That is strange. I have a solid fiberglass front door that gets full sun all day long and nothing like that. The only thing I have is a little glue coming out from around the window, probably from being in the sun, but nothing else. The door is probably 15 years old.

Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.
