ranger312Certified fundraising letter from Republicans
Enough is Enough!
Got a notice in my mailbox today that i had a certified letter - signature required. So I drove 20 min to the post office and it was a fundraising letter from the Republican party.
I have given some money to them, but this is ridiculous, wasting my time to drive there and back + stand in a line once there. I am pissed! Letter will get sent back on their dime with a nasty note inside.

Rick LeeWhy would you ever go to retrieve a certified letter? It can never be good news.
FWIW, I used to work at the RNC and in the dept. that managed the direct mail campaigns. These letters make them a ton of money. You can't imagine the number of people who write back nastygrams, tell them to eff off, but send a check along with it. They don't do experimental direct mail campaigns. They do what they know makes money every time.

Jim ShugartI've got two ex-wives. A certified letter would pucker my asshole so tight that you couldn't drive a straight pin into it with a sledge hammer.

I think it's legit. Comes from the "National Republican Congressional Committee" that sends out many of these. Same P.O. box in DC as the one I got from Newt Gingrich last week. His was regular mail though.

Nope. They do what's proven to work and stunts like that work for some reason. Inconveniencing prospective donors is the last thing I'd ever think to do but apparently the marketing goons think otherwise.

Ignoring a certified letter is unwise. One of the attorneys will be along to explain.

The NRCC is the entire second floor of the RNC's four story bldg. They obviously have the same physical address, but most of their direct mail goes to PO Boxes, which actually belong to a few banks that process the credit card payments and checks. We used to get all that mail after the bank was done with it, and we'd sift through it to see what they missed. We usually found a few thousand dollars a week, sometimes even cash stapled to stuff.
