This place seems to find a new way to screw up monthly. Now they got caught letting the tutor for the football, baseball and softball teams take tests for the athletes. The teams are now suspended and can't play any post season games this year. https://www.cbssports.com/coll...academic-violations/

yeah, not surprising. Seems like after all the years this has been going on, we would be way past this. Reminds me of the time when Anthony Munoz got on the Cincy Bengals. His face appeared on while the game was being televised. A college prof, I believe at USC, looked at that picture and said, wow he was in my class and I have never seen that guy before. So, someone must have been going to class for him. I like the guy, but still dishonest. I would bet a lot of teams do something like this. One of the worst academic frauds was UNC, for years they allowed student athletes to enroll in classes, never attend and get passing grades. In the end the NCAA didn't give the university the death penalty because the university also allowed non athletes to attend the same classes. Seems if you perpetrate academic fraud equally it's ok. UNC's athletic program should be shut down, lesser universities have paid more for less violations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...mic-athletic_scandal

I thought I read they had heavily declining enrollment after that incident where the red-headed vixen asked for some muscle to get rid of that reporter. I bet the alumni gifts dipped a little too. Someone there must be in charge of making sure this stuff stops, no?

If any college in the country is in need of help designing a plan to completely destroy their school, have them call the staff at Missouri. I am fairly certain they shuttered some older dorms after the last hubbub as enrollment was down significantly. My wife and most of her family are alumni. They are all largely disgusted with the direction their alma mater has taken.

Interesting enough the NCAA handed down some restrictions on Mizzou, and unlike the kid gloves treatment they gave UNC, they hit Mizzou. The NCAA’s explanation of why Missouri was punished and UNC was not is another reminder they’re the worst Linky Thingy By Mrs. Tyler Thompson on ©January 31st, 2019 @ 2:30pm Posted in Main | 14 Responses Earlier today, the NCAA handed down postseason bans, recruiting restrictions, and fines to the Missouri football, baseball and softball programs for academic fraud, specifically a tutor completing academic work for 12 student-athletes. Compared to the slap on the wrist North Carolina received for 18 years of academic fraud, Mizzou’s punishment is pretty harsh, and the Committee of Infraction’s explanation for why Mizzou got hammered and North Carolina did not is yet another reminder of why the NCAA is totally ridiculous. Before we get into it, it’s important to point out that the cases are different. While UNC’s paper classes were a total cakewalk, the students athletes did do their own work, whereas a tutor completed some — and in one case, all — of the academic work for Missouri’s student athletes. Also, the fact that non-athletes also took the paper classes at UNC meant that the student athletes weren’t getting special treatment; however, according to the Committee of Infractions, because Missouri admitted to the fraud, they got punished. “The conduct at issue in this case is also distinguishable from the COI’s decision in University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2017). Among other differences, UNC stood by the courses and the grades it awarded student-athletes. In support of that position, UNC asserted that although courses were created and graded by an office secretary, student-athletes completed their own work. Here, by contrast, Missouri acknowledged that the tutor completed student-athletes’ work and, in most instances, this conduct violated its honor code.” Not to open a pandora’s box of rage, but if you remember, North Carolina actually did admit to academic fraud initially, but when the NCAA asked them about it, their lawyers claimed it was a typo. If you think that will just encourage schools to deny, deny, deny moving forward, you’re right. What an awesome precedent to set. Way to go, NCAA.

I was a tutor at my public college/undergrad in MO. Similar situation whereas they had me tutor a basketball player. He came in expecting me to do his assignments then complained to his coach when I wouldn’t. Got called I and asked about it - never got anymore work after that but he certainly got another tutor. Also state colleges in MO wouldn’t allow me to have academic scholarships for my class ranking and ACT/SAT scores from high school after I had served in the army before attending college. MO policy is screwy. so whenever they call me to ask for alumni donations I remark on how I paid for my own education they can get stuffed. Kind of a your moneys on the nightstand I’m through with you.

I tutored while in college. Mostly chemistry and statistics. None of my tutees(?) asked for or got special treatment. NCAA should terminate the Missouri program from top to bottom. As a Missouri tax payer I would be happy to donate the land and buildings to make it a private school. I can't understand why government is in the business of education. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor
