I have requisitioned my wife's M1 MacBook Air since my 2017 MacBook Pro crapped out. Waiting for the next version of the MacBook Pro with an M1 (upgrade) chip in it. I would strongly recommend against buying a Mac that does not have the M1 chip--that is, any one that has an Intel chip. Incredible speed, long battery life, no fan yet stays cool. _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne

Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
My wife and my son have the macbook air you want. They are great computers. My son uses his for gaming and school. No problems at all. He recently had his water bottle empty out in his backpack and the entire computer was soaked and had water pouring out of it. It still powered up and he used it for the remainder of the school day despite having visible water in his monitor. We did a time machine backup and took it in for service. $300 later with apple care+ they replaced everything but the frame and the keyboard. 30 minutes after getting the computer back, the time machine restored his computer and it was like nothing ever happened. My mom uses our old 2011 MBP with an upgraded 1TB hard drive and we have a 2013 macbook air with 1TB HD as a backup/guest computer. I am typing this on a 2015 MBP. It's a great machine! Tony. Just this last month I had to sadly retire my late 2013 15" MacBook pro because of a battery swelling issue. Though in the 8yrs since purchase I never had any issues other than this battery issue. It still works although I had to purchase a mouse because of the upwards pressure from the battery swelling interfered with the trackpad, it still worked well. I'm keeping it and possibly purchasing a battery from uFixit and replace the bad battery but could encounter additional problems caused by the swelling issue and hesitant at this time to pursue. I didn't want to go to the smaller 13" display with the new MacBook Pro M1 but I found a decent price on an 8GB/512 and am currently using it. I'll admit, the M1 machine is extremely fast, and I like the touch bar feature. I've adjusted to the real estate of the smaller display and it's just fine. I'm not a tech savvy computer person but for browsing, emails/messaging watching videos and some post processing images, it works great. Now that I'm used to the smaller display, I like it. If it's anything like my 15' MacBook Pro I should get many good years of use from it. I picked it up on special for a decent price and very pleased so far. It's taken a bit of getting used to using Big Sur but integrates well with all my devices. I believe that I've heard that the newer versions coming up may come with more usable ports, which would be a plus. I purchased the adapter with the HDMI and a couple of USB ports to use for externals. So far, it a great machine, super quiet, extremely fast, and I'm actually kinda enjoying the smaller size. When I first got it set up and running the speed was so noticeably faster than my previous MacBook, they built it extremely well. Regards, Will G.

I'm typing this from my mid-2012 15" MacBook Pro. It was one of the last "user upgradeable" MacBook Pro's which allowed me to max out RAM and I replaced the optical drive I rarely used with a second SSD. It's nearly ten years old and it doesn't feel "old" at all. It was only last year that I could no longer update to the latest OS; however, OS Catalina (the final version supported by Apple for this device) still receives regular updates. I replaced the battery a couple years ago ($60) and get about four hours of mixed web browsing, video streaming and work function. As others have stated, the M1 laptops are game-changing. I plan to finally upgrade mid next year (making a nice ten year run for this device). Most non-Mac laptops only last for a few years before either hardware issues or software issues cause their demise (although I still have an old ThinkPad T420 running Linux Mint for fun). My work-issued Dell laptops start feeling dated fairly quickly. The cost of entry to MacBooks is higher, but ten years of solid continuous service out of a laptop with no issues and constant support makes the entry price inconsequential since if I had been running a PC I'd probably be on my third or fourth machine by this point. I dislike the politics behind Apple; however, I like the ecosystem and their products are consistently excellent. Proverbs 28:1

My 2010 has been upgraded it with a SSD Hard drive and 16gb ram and it is every bit as fast as my 2017 Retina. I challenge you to find a 2010 pc that could that. _________________________

Your experience with Apple was better than mine. Daughter’s Apple Air was four months old, she did not buy any additional coverage due to financial concerns, she was in the middle of a divorce at the time. I took it to an official Apple store literally within one hour of the incident. It was completely dead. The guy on the floor took it into the back for the repair “team” to inspect, after about a half hour the diagnosis backed by purported photos of the internals fully engulfed in corrosion. I questioned this and was told that he just took those photos and I could not see the parts, I was supposed to believe him. The damage estimate I was given to repair exceeded the price of the Air. They did not have the equivalent pad, he offered a more expensive one (of course) that the store had in stock.I declined to purchase it, he offered to dispose of the damaged one for me, this I also declined. As I had to help my daughter I let her order a new one from Amazon on my card for next day delivery. Late that night on a whim I hit the power switch, it was alive, only thing that did not work was the charger. Found an independent shop, he took it apart, this time in front of me on the counter, a very small area of corrosion in the charger circuit, most importantly, no where else. Come to your own conclusions, mine is that at least that Apple associate figures that he could sell a new one and “dispose” of the “junk” one, well dispose of it to either himself or another associate, take it to the shop and have them repair it and someone got a free Apple. Your results may vary. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A.
