| It's an older A2 style upper. The Colt 6520 was a really common one that used that upper, but I think it had a pencil barrel.
Either way, that's almost certainly a 16" barrel and there hundreds of thousands of guns built in similar configurations. |

| One thing is certain, and that is not M16. M16 is 20-inch barrel with a rifle length gas system. That one has carbine length gas system, and, as Brad said, a 16-inch barrel.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

| That is not how to grow an AR. The correct way is to have extra parts laying around that need a place to go.

Yep, best growing conditions are inside a locked gun safe. Close it up and they multiply like mushrooms.

| There is probably a bullet in a crime lab that matches that barrel. |

That was actually suggested to the homeowner who found it. Who knows what else they'd find. Don't know if they'll follow up. At any rate, the item has already been turned into the po-po. |

That is my first thought as well.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946. |
