I have 3 direct ancestors that were patriots. I’ve been trying tiger into my local Sons of the American Revolution chapter but they are less than welcoming. To join you have to document direct lineage to people who fought or provided material support or were in the patriot government

One ancestor was strait up my mom line and was same last name as my moms maiden name

Another on my dads side was a Major in the revolution and his home was captured and used by Cornwallis

A third was on my dads side was a pastor and farmer and also served in the MA provincial legislatures. He was a MA delegate to the MA ratifying convention of the constitution and voted against signing because he thought but still gave too much power to a central government. After I found out about him and was doing research I found a receipt with his name and signature on it that sold at auction a few years prior. He arranged and provided 10 new rifles to his local militia and if was his reimbursement. He also wanted a religious purity test and even in the 1770’s there are documented quote of his. He did not want "...a papist, a Mohomatan [muslim], a deist, yea an atheist at the helm of government" The genetics run strong from this one in me !


I am very proud of all these patriot ancestors.

He was primarily a farmer and a lay preacher was also a justice of the peace. he did NOT want atheists, he primarily only wanted Christians. But voted against ratifying becuase the constitution allowed anybody of any or no religious to be elected.

Back then “yea” was yes or indeed it’s not a welcoming it’s him saying an atheist is the worst of the list.

My 5th Great-Grandfather was Major John Polhemus (1743-1834). As Captain John Polhemus he participated in Washington's crossing of the Delaware on the night of December 26, 1776, to capture the Hessian forces in Trenton. He also served at the Battle of Brandywine on September 11, 1777, the Battle of Germantown on October 4, 1777, and the Battle of Monmouth on June 28, 1778.

I might look into the Sons of the American Revolution.

I have a number of direct ancestors who were active military in the Revolution. The SAR does require a lot of hassle to get into, and honestly I haven't figured what the benefits would be to membership.

The DAR has gone all DEI woke and are admitting trans who are men that think they're women.

What Happened To The 56 Signatories Of The Declaration Of Independence

Today the United States celebrates the 250th - or semiquincentennial - anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

While July 4 marks the day Thomas Jefferson's revised draft of the Declaration of Independence was adopted, it would take months for the document to be signed by all 56 men who would eventually affix their names to it.

Several key figures in American history - George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison, among others - don't appear among the signatories of the Declaration of Independence at all, having been serving in military roles or other capacities at the time.

None of the 56 signers died as a result of their signature, but before the war was over, five would be captured, 12 would have their homes destroyed, and 17 would lose their entire fortunes. None of the 56 signatories ever renounced the cause of independence of their own free will.

Here's what happened to the men who pledged "our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor" to the cause of American independence, on the basis of "self-evident ... Truths" that not even a global empire - or a king - could deny.
