I'm back into the office after a 14 day trip across the state performing site visits for work, attending a wedding, seeing family, and attempting to catch up with some of our remote and rural clients. Oh, and we started the fall semester of 5th grade for our son on the trip.

Weather came together along with a 2-day lull, and we were able to find a completely empty state campground in the Glennallen area with 4G data service. I took the opportunity to get out the baby weber and grill up a beef tri-tip. Figured I'd share with you guys.

Just under 2K miles and zero break-downs. I'm really loving traveling in this coach. 2000 American Eagle. An added bonus was when the campground host came around on day 2 and handed us our money back saying they refuse to charge veterans. That was a nice bonus.

Pretty cool. Sounds like a nice trip. I've always wondered what it would be like to travel around in an RV(?) coach like that.

Dumb question: 2K miles and no breakdowns - is this unusual?

Old coach (22 years old), new to us (3 months). Our first trip out we got a bad batch of gas (ton of water in it) and had some puckering at a stop.

Mountain roads of Alaska are always an unknown quantity. Especially with the crazy road construction.

Ah, got it. There is some history. And though the vehicle looks new to me, it's got some years on it. There was some context here, not that these types of vehicles are prone to frequent breakdowns.

I've always wondered what it would be like to travel around in an RV(?) coach like that.

I found myself at the completion of 14 days saying I could go another 14 days at least. We never got cramped for space, never ran out of supplies, never wanted for comforts (showers, heat, etc).

IF safe to do so when it comes time, we'd like to take 6-12 months and do a lesser 48 tour. Teaching US history while traveling to the places it happened, and exposure to cultures that differ from ours can be an excellent education for a young man. We're thinking age 15 for it, so he can also experience driving in other states. Right now the plan is probably not to use this coach, we'll likely fly down, skip canuckistan, and spend a month purchasing and provisioning the right setup down there.

A lot can change in 4 years.

That rig looks like a diesel pusher to me, I don't see a grill on the front.

Cummins 8.3L ISC 400HP with the Allison 6 speed push-button automatic transmission on a Spartan Chasis. I'm still shaking it out...and learning, but so far I'm very impressed with the performance. We're getting 10.6-10.8 mpg driving Alaskan mountain highways. The packbrake performs well if you do your part and don't start the descent too fast. I'm getting a little searching on mountain pass climbs in auto, but if I pick the gears and skip the cruise control I can keep temps down and maintain the speed limit up the mountain.
