My dad neatly boxed this all up for me and marked my name on it, many years ago. Santa Claus brought it to me when I was a boy. My wife pulled it out of our storage room and it was unboxed for the first time in decades. She wanted it set up under the tree, but the train needs a fair amount of maintenance just because of the years sitting boxed. Don’t know what I’ll do with it, don’t really have a place to set it up, but I would like to see it run, lights on and whistle blowin’

Cool!

Its good to see an AF every now and then. Should be able to run a Q-tip with alchohol on the stator and sand the brushes a bit. May have to lightly rub the rails if they have oxidized.

Last year I had one 'round the tree, but it was a Marklin 1 gauge and was big enough to go 'round the presents too.

Well done. Mine stays out all year on the fireplace mantle. Get it out at least once a year and put it under the Christmas tree!

I have something similar from AF back when I was a kid. The locomotive looks the same; cars are different. All the track corroded away years ago and the transformer is who-knows-where.

My father still laments the loss of his American Flyer trains.

I have a Marklin 1 gauge too. With a small gathering this year this would be a good time to set it up.

Oh man, thanks for posting that. I had forgotten when I was about 10 years old I got a train for Christmas. 1st thing I did was set it up at the tree. The track was in a Figure 8 pattern.

You've brought back great memories. Thanks.

Now that you write that, I bet mine was set up in a figure 8 as well. The box the train came out of has trestles that would enable the pattern. Thanks, Gene

I bought an o scale Lionel Polar Express for the boys this year. They love it. Engine, coal car, and 3 passenger cars.

My father was big into trains. Ours was a Lionel HO set. I've got it now; it's in original boxes-- from the late 50's/early 6o's--down in the basement. One of these days I'll probably set it up and get it running again. HO were very detailed in a small scale. It's a cool train set.
