Fox News ran a story this morning headlined, “Newsom vetoes bill that would require parents to affirm child's gender identity in custody battles.”
Late last night, completely bypassing the news cycle, California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed the most awful bill to come down the California pike lately. If signed, the law would have required judges in child custody cases to give extra weight to parents who “affirmed” their child's mental illness, I mean “gender identity.”
If you needed any more evidence Newsom is running for president, this is it. But it’s evidence of even more good news. First, it shows that democrats know the wacky trans stuff is deeply unpopular with a lot of folks — otherwise Newsom would have happily signed the bill into law with great fanfare.
Instead he quietly killed it late on a Friday night.
Second, for similar reasons, the veto confirms what we all suspected: that people who support surgically deconstructing children aren’t nationally electable, not even if they’re democrats. (I have no doubt Newsom would turn on a dime once elected.)

The CA legislature can feasibly override his veto on AB 957, the Assembly passed the bill through the two houses by more than the 2/3s vote required for an override.
Newsom claims he vetoed the bill because he saw it as setting up a dangerous precedent for "other-minded" states, basically red states, to use the same strategy to single out one characteristic of a legal standard for the judicial branch to apply. IMO, he is not doing it to make himself appear more moderate, the guy has signed hundreds of bills in the last two years, many just as bad as AB 957. A year ago, he signed into law making CA a Sanctuary state for out of state transgender children in regards to surgery.

Sean Hannity Will Host Debate Between Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom on November 30th in… Wait for It…. Georgia
This is so transparently silly and yet simultaneously obvious in motive.
Both Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis are the approved corporate candidates for 2024. CTH pointed out this effort a year ago, and all of the datapoints since then have perfectly aligned to the simple truth of the thing. Either DeSantis or Newsom is acceptable to the Sea Island crew, and guess where the debate will take place. Yep, Georgia. lol
The intelligence glow-worm known as Sean Hannity, who will have to quickly learn the shut-up skills needed to be a debate moderator, is the chosen performance artist for the nonsense. Hannity will likely take the multinational duo on a tour through the questions of policy that he would provide as solutions, and then ask each participant to give their opinion of Hannity’s, “I used to be a dishwasher and I know things” proposals.
FOX News Channel’s Sean Hannity will moderate a red vs. blue state debate between Florida Gov. and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis and Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom, FOX News Media announced Monday.
The 90-minute event will air at 9 p.m. ET on Nov. 30 in Georgia, marking the first time the two prominent governors will face off in a debate.
“I’m looking forward to providing viewers with an informative debate about the everyday issues and governing philosophies that impact the lives of every American,” Hannity said.
Oh. Alrighty then. We’re just all going to pretend like it’s the first-ever non-campaigning gubernatorial debate. Okey dokey.
Back in August, the DeSantis campaign agreed to the idea of debating Newsom, who is not officially a presidential candidate, but nothing further was announced till this week.
In related news, the second Republican presidential debate is scheduled for tomorrow night starting at 9pm EST. You’ll be forgiven for not already having it in your calendar. But Governor Newsom had it in his calendar. Check out this little news nugget:
As far as I can tell, instead of the actual candidate — Biden — Governor Newsom will deliver the DNC’s response to the GOP debate. Onsite. Live.
The articles about busy-bee Newsom’s recent activity all say that Newsom has “sub-zero” interest in running for the democrat nomination. He’s sure spending a lot of time on presidential politicking though.

REVIVING AN OLD THREAD ALERT
OK, so Gavin struck out in 2023-2024...
But, Gavin Newsom is STILL Running for President, more than ever, and is probably the Dem. front-runner.
BUT, Gavin Newsom still sucks ...
Wary Of Gasoline Shortage, California Pauses Price-Gouging Penalty On Oil Companies
Authored by Jill McLaughlin via The Epoch Times,
California regulators fearing a dramatic drop in gasoline supply placed a five-year pause on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s penalty on oil industry profits Aug. 29.
The decision is a blow to Newsom’s legislation aimed at penalizing the oil industry for allegedly driving up the state’s gas prices in 2022.
California Energy Commission Vice Chair Siva Gunda said the state must shield motorists from price spikes at the pump even as it tries to transition to clean-energy fuel sources for transportation.
The commission says the pause on its penalty program was needed to further study the industry.
“We believe this additional time will increase industry confidence enough to secure investments in refinery maintenance and is therefore a prudent way to ensure employee safety and maintain a safe, reliable, affordable supply of fuel during this critical point in the transition to a carbon-free transportation system,” a spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email Sept. 2.
California drivers continue to pay the nation’s highest prices at the pump, with the cost exceeding the national average by more than a dollar per gallon, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.
Fuel demand in the state has slowly dwindled since 2019 as more Californians switch to electric vehicles, but the decrease in demand is not fast enough to keep up with even sharper drops in the state’s fuel supply as refineries continue to leave.
The state would need to increase overseas crude imports, possibly creating serious delays in fuel for consumers, which is what prompted staff to propose the regulatory pause, reported Drew Bohan, the energy commission’s executive director.
The agency also hasn’t been able to prove Newsom’s claim that the oil industry was gouging.
“The data at this point is just not sufficient to indicate that there’s ongoing market manipulation, or a structural failure, that would justify immediate regulatory intervention,” Bohan said.

1) it should be obvious to everyone now that he’s running in 2028. He has a lot of baggage to get over but my take is he’ll take all the arrows and then another candidate will sneak in
2) CA has 2 big oil refineries going offline very soon like in weeks. And also FYI CA made gas also goes to NV and AZ. So good luck with your $8 gas. The energy commission or whoever knocking off pennies per gallon in gas tax won’t make up for massive shortages.

The only one gouging on gas in California is the CA government.
We are at about 90 cents a gallon currently and going up.
They have a board that is not elected but appointed by Newsome that keeps raising taxes.
He’s changing his tune a bit because the refineries said FU and are pulling out of the state.

Gav running is no surprise.
His entire platform is "I'm not Trump" and that's not a plan going forward for the nation. He's not very well=spken and outside of tightly controlled settings, he just sort of utters gibberish.
The ads against him will be epic. Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Kackles and Gav are all from SF. Do you want the rest of the nation to be like SF? Gav is a disaster as governor with nothing to show for it except that he's a green idiot, he's all in favor of unions, he bankrupted the state, he loves taxes and hates guns. He's a good Dem but has no real vision moving forward.

He hasn’t run a real campaign since his first run for SF mayor. In that race he was the establishment candidate running against a Green Party twit. SF and CA aren’t going gangbusters. There are a lot of problems. He has skeletons. He’s slick and probably too much so. He comes across as smarmy and the coke and booze and sleeping with his best friend’s wife thing plays into it. He’s a spoiled rich kid. He’s a finger wagging male Hilary on the same do as I say not as I do power trip. Being “NOT TRUMP” appeals to the crowd that would vote for him anyway. The messy middle matters. The folks who might not vote. The folks who flipped from Obama to Trump to Biden back to Trump. How does Gav sell himself to them? “I shut down the state and mandated masks and destroyed small businesses all while hosting unmasked fancy dinners” doesn’t play. He isn’t authentic. None of this is to say he can’t win. He wants to be the emperor but he has no clothes. He’ll be exposed.

with regards tot he revitalization of an old thread...
Anyone notice the suspense is only for five years?
This expires in 2030
IF Newsome were to win in 2028, CA gas prices will be down a ton, which Newsome will campaign on (clean air, lower gas prices, etc) then, a year into the term, CA will reengage with the goobermint price gouging all the while explaining how the big, bad, polluting, environment killing gasoline companies the vehicles they feed are the root of all evil and must be eliminated for "clean" energy

Newsom, this useless sack of shit here in Illinois- Pritzker, and the 9 1/2 digit midget, Rahm Emanual.
Im predicting those will be the big 3 contenders on the dipshit / democrat side.

I think the five year reprieve is for the refinery requirement to add on-site capacity (presumably to add a supply cushion while adding tremendous cost to the refineries).
However, Valero in Martinez (April 2026) and P66 in San Pedro/Carson are shutting down (don't remember when) regardless of anything the gov or agency claim to do. We are losing 20% of production and prices will go up, regardless of what Gavin 2028 campaign hopes for.
Gavin will be a formidable opponent. Do not underestimate his smarmy, slick, anti-Trump rhetoric to land with many voters, regardless of the many disasters simmering in California.
Like berto mentioned, Gavin has ran unopposed. Any serious, well-spoken opponent (Rubio, JD, Desantis) will lay waste to Gavy.

Newsome comes across as a complete and total dick. That doesn't usually work well in Presidential races. You have to be likable or relatable.
1. In a sane world, Gavin would never become President.
2. That he is seriously running for the presidency says something about the world which makes him winning the presidency, while improbable, not impossible which is scary.
3. But I'm not going to be chicken little; I'll wait who the Republicans run against him.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. I don't think it is that simple.
First, he thought he could "talk to" conservatives and "meet them where they are".
Then when that didn't work, he thought he could be the liberal version of Trump. He is calling for a special election to change the California Constitution in order to allow mid-cycle redistricting to counter what Texas has done.
The telling point will come when California voters decide whether to allow mid-cycle redistricting in order to Gerrymander out Republicans. It's a pretty bold move for Newsom because if the votes fail, he can kiss his Presidential ambitions goodbye. The best he will be able to hope for is a consolation prize of Secretary of Education or some other such nonsense.
