A while ago, during one of the (Thank God and SF) frequent SF coin karmas, I realized that I've been carrying the same key ring / silver coin since 1978.

Can hardly believe I've managed not to lose something for so long using it every single day. My coin is all worn out but still there and will only be replaced by a SF one if I am to carry it for the next 40 years ... Wink

So, what else is so dear to you?

Reproduction of 1861 Confederate States half-dollar. Never fails to draw attention whenever I pull out of pocket to make change.

A small Gerber lock back with 1 3/4" blade. I bought it to carry in my flight suit in 1990 and carried it on every flight and every day at work until I retired. Then I carried it while doing the airline thing until post-911 when the TSA decided that it might help me gain access to the cockpit during flight. Roll Eyes Thank goodness I read the tea leaves and left it at home before it was confiscated like my highly dangerous tactical nail clipper was.

Other than when I have to do air travel for work, it is in my pocket every day.

I have a Spyderco knife that I bought in 1995 that I carry daily. My wife stole it from me and lost it in a purse she stopped using for 10 years before we randomly found it. I've had it sharpened a few times and hope to keep it for many more years.

The oldest EDC item that I am using now is an IWB mag holder for my extra mag. It fits multiple mags, and being IWB, is secure. It's not that it is "so dear," it's just that I have used it longer than any of my other EDC items.

Not my every day carry but one that was my fathers.

A silver dollar my mother gave him when he left in WWII. He carried it every day until he died in 96. It had wore to being just a silver smooth disk. My son has it now. It was the one thing he asked to have to remember his grandfather.

My dad carried his draft card in his wallet until he died in 06.
I believe at one point it was required that you carried your draft card on your person, at least thats the reason that was given to me when i asked why he would have kept it all those years.
After his death I kept the wallet and its contents. And now I carry his draft card for him.

As to why he would have kept it I will never know. He volunteered

I've got a .22 lr paycheck and .41 mag tastes

Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6

Victorinox Tinker SAK w/ black scales, EDC since 1991.

I have to say, that I think it's damn impressive how well it's held up, and that in 27+ years, the price for a brand new one has only increased $2. Given inflation, the adjusted price has gone down. The quality of mine vs a new one appears to be identical as far as I can tell, and they are still made in Switzerland.
