I have some stuff I'm thinking of trading in for an amplifier but I'm not sure if it's even worth the attempt.

I've got a Roland GP-100, a Carver GA250 and a Mackie 1202-VLZ Pro. All of this is in an SKB GigRig (6 space on the front) rack.

Any ideas to help me value these items?

Rackmounted *anything* went out of fashion in the early 90's, and a lot of stores don't want to mess with it because it tends to sit, especially if it's used. When I managed my little store in Florida, we wouldn't deal with rackmounted guitar stuff for that reason. I politely declined a number of trade-in offers. If you have a store that will take it in trade, you're likely going to be offered very little for it.

Honestly, I recommend parting out the rack and sell the pieces individually online to get your best value. eBay completed listings will give you a good idea. Good luck, Mark.

What amp are you looking at?

Thanks. I think the mixer and rack may sell for someone that does live sound or DJing. The other stuff is good stuff but as you said has fallen out of favor.

Guitar center lists a GA250 as having sold but doesn't show a price. The GP-100 has something that seems desirable, maybe the harmonizer or slow gear.

I think GC automatically gives you 60% of what the item sells for and they'll also knock 10% off anything you buy if you trade something in. Those are just rumors that I've heard though.

While I truly desire a BC Audio Grand Prix, the amp I'm eyeballing is a Marshall DSL40C.

I had very poor experiences trading equipment in at GC. Low ball and every excuse to give you low dollar, and that's not even on rack mount stuff. I give up on them.

Musical equipment is at a low point right now. I can't sell a nice pair of 1400watt speakers for $300 for a year now, and got two rack mount power amps for $40 total- a Yamaha ($15) and crown ($25), and both work fine. Did you notice how little they will discount their new equipment to you?

Five Roland GP-100s have sold on ebay in the last month -
$131.50
$137.50
$200.00
$107.50
$179.99

No Carver GA250 have sold that I can find on ebay. There was one on Reverb for 199.00 but it doesn't say if it sold or not.

And for the Mackie 1202-VLZ Pro - these are all in March. Prices are all over the place.
$81.00
$85.00
$149.99
$109.99
$84.00
$65.00
$110.00

There are a bunch on Reverb - again prices all over the place.

Every time I look I see the items auction ended with no sale. I'm searching wrong. I've never listed on reverb but I have an account.

I helped a friend find a used Mackie 1402 recently, and it cost them $150 at Guitar Center.

To the far right of the search box (right to the right of the blue search button) there is a clickable link for "Advanced".

one of the option areas is

Search including
-Title and description
-Completed listings
-Sold listings

Sold listings will get you actual sales. Completed includes sold and ones where the listing ended without a sale. That one can be useful as the price is still listed and you can see what people are asking for, and what prices point is actually working.

From what I have seen, they typically pay around 40% of what it would sell for so if the OP can find what stores are selling used ones for, that might give him a good guess on what je would get.

Live on the wild side and post them on Craigs List.

If you go eBay get a good handle on the shipping fees before listing the item. In general 10% to eBay, 3% and .30 to PayPal and Shipping fees.

Some cat from here named guruofhotrod saw this and wants to buy the Carver amp. So, if it goes through I'll have sold two items with zero murders, craigslist or otherwise, so far.

Looks like I'm selling one item per year. This would make a horrible career.
