This thread has not been up and running in five years. Many new members, then, have not seen it. Many of us at the beginning of the new year donate to charities.

We love dogs, and are heartbroken when we see the ASPCA television commercials of abused dogs.

Here is a very specific and detailed breakdown of the ASPCA budget for 2014.

https://paddockpost.com/2016/0...s-1-to-the-aspca-go/

The CEO's salary there is listed at about half a million a year. His salary this year is $997,000.

As many people have said in this thread, SPCA is not affiliated with ASPCA. SPCAs are manned by volunteers and are often short of money.

When the ASPCA commercials air, I have to change the channel. Who would do this? Who would air pathetic photos and videos of suffering dogs for their own enrichment?

I have been working with one of my local animal charities.
No salaries for anyone, it all goes to help the animals.
I won't donate to any national groups for any type of charity. Too much goes to administration, lobbying, etc.
I like to see what my money does up close.

i am not expert on this topic. But a couple thoughts.

Christian organizations like Samaritan's purse or the 700 club. There are others.

DAV or other veterans organizations.

Guide dogs for the blind.

Things that benefit the elderly.

There are other worthy causes.

Take your time and sort out the charities that interest you. Vet them as there are good ones and not so good ones.

Just food for thought.

Good for you thinking how to make a positive impact.

Can't speak to ASPCA. But can offer some additional information on St Judes. Know a guy who was CIO at a Fortune 10 company. He got a good look at St. Judes due to their corporate contributions. This is a super smart and ethical individual. What he learned is that all of the corporate contributions went to their corporate level for them to determine how it gets distributed. So say the contributions from his company brought in $10 million from the Chicago area employees. All $10 million goes to St.Jude corporate and they spend it where they want.
He disliked the structure enough that he has set up his own charity at the local hospital because he wants his contributions to help local families.

^^^^^^ but keep in mind no contributions can go to the patients because everything for them is completely covered. They are not charged a penny. Even their travel and lodging is covered.

But I think we should keep this thread on the ASPCA.
