Car guys - if anyone who really works on cars out there, answers from you would be especially appreciated. How much to replace the main dashboard of a 2018 Kia Sorento? A friend/potential client bought this car last year, and the dash has deteriorated for no apparent reason. Discolored, etc. How much money to replace a dashboard for this car? I had a 2004 4Runner which had its dash start cracking everywhere after about 4 years old. Toyota eventually had a recall however getting the free replacement actually installed was another matter. Have your friend insure there has not been a recall already issued. That’s all I have to offer, good luck. | |||

A cover for the dash is about $40. An OEM replacement dash (the main piece) is about $620 from an online parts dealer and $800+ from a regular dealer. If you are searching, the dash board is sometimes called a "crash pad" in some catalogs. The catalog I'm looking at now is kiapartsnow.com and the part number is 84710...but obviously double check that with the dealer (providing your VIN) to get the proper color/fit. You might also have some luck with salvage or ebay--but I imagine taking apart the dash is pretty labor intensive. | |||

No suggestions on replacement, but did your friend use any types of cleaner on the dash? That's just scary. I'm looking at lease turn in Sorentos. | |||

I need an estimate of total cost to replace. Not advice about covers and warranties. Dealer already refused to fix it. No cleaners or anything used. I need the estimate to write a nastygram threatening all involved with the consumer protection statutes. The fish is mute, expressionless. I'm reading $800.00 dollars+ 7 hours labor. But a job like that is very risky. Probably the reason dealer is refusing. I think you need to find another repair shop. Regards, Jack | |||

$800 seems really low to replace the dash. I recently needed a fan door replaced in my dash and the part was $40 but the labor was $2500 to remove the dash and replace the A/C plastic door that routes the air to the correct vent. This was in my 2014 Ford F150. The dealership wanted a lot more than that. It was $2500 to replace the dash in my 2016 Expedition $1200 for the dash pad and $1300 labor. So $800 + 7+ hours of labor easy for the KIA. What is KIAs average hourly labor rate? Ford is $80-$175 based on the area of the country. That is certainly a warranty issue and I would check another with dealer and if they were no help be running it up corporate. Presumption is that because it's a 2018 its a warranty issue, not something the owner has done by cleaning the pad with some solvent and leaving it out in the hot TX sun to damage the pad, or that the dealer did something to it to cause the dash problems. Not sure why a dealer would turn down the option to do warranty work unless they think its customer damage. Its easy money. Dealers do not issue warranties on vehicles, manufacturers do, If he bought it new it has a 10 year warranty, KIA is pretty good about it with customers, instead of writing letters he should just call KIA direct or go to a different dealer to have it fixed. Any warranty recourse would be through KIA, the dealers not responsible for factory warranty in any way other than reporting the claim and fixing the vehicle. HRK, actually the dashboard would be covered under the 5yr/60,000 warranty not the 10yr/100,000 drivetrain warranty. I have a 2011 Sorento so I'm familiar with this. It's irrelevant in this case, but I wanted to clarify this for anyone looking to buy a Kia. He has been all through that with Kia USA. They told him to fuck off. I can't say why the dealer wouldn't help him, but they wouldn't. Yes, it should be a warranty fix. I know that. He knows that. So, we are at the point where I am hired to write them a demand letter under the Texas consumer protection statute. For that, I need an estimate of the cost to repair the dash. The dealer I bought my Sorento from has been awesome with any issue I've had (very few) so I'm thinking that the dealer you're working with is a jackwad or they believe that your client caused the issue and Kia USA believes them. They should have given you a reason for turning down the claim. I haven't had to contact them but I'm hearing that they are reasonable to deal with. Perhaps a call to a random dealer in another city asking for a quote would get a pretty accurate answer? I’ve not dealt with Kia before but usually service departments are happy to give a rough quote over the phone. | |||

The strategy is to deny the claim until you can't any longer. Costs little or nothing to say no, and saves manufacturers a great deal of money cause most claims go away.
