I was an early adaptor to cord cutting with Apple TV back in late 2015. I was hesitant with a $150 dollar price, but thought about the integration with my tablet and our inventory of Macs around the house.

The Apple TV died in January 2019 (would not turn on), and we replaced it with a Roku. We had never had more than one TV hookud before (game room and movie only), and once we had the Roku, we ended up getting two more. IF you buy an LG or Sharp TV, it comes Roku ready, and is very easy to set up. I can cast my cell phone to any of four different roku devises in the house. I would not spend 3x the price for an equivalent system for HD. I can only speak to the HD systems as we do not have any 4k TVs.

Notwithstanding the manifestos that I’ve already posted arguing for my Rokus, I must acknowledge that I’ve bought & tossed many a piece of AV hardware over the years. And I’ve even returned to a already-abandoned format. Thus, I’m not sure why I’ve drawn a hard line against spending $150 for the Apple TV as a trial!

Worst case, it would simply be another hunk of plastic tossed to the curb.

A few of you have implied some integration with OTA DVR’s but I’ll pursue that angle further in the separate thread mentioned by ensigmatic.

Even being a tech geek, I never imagined I'd find it particularly useful, either. Boy, was I wrong. See my earlier response to member FHHM213.

(Btw: I drink my coffee black, too Wink.)

Our Apple TVs have been that, but I imagine a Roku would be, too.

Well, ±$150 is ±$150. I don't know about you, but that's still a lot of money to me Smile

TBH: I was disinclined to spend that kind of money on a streaming device, myself. In fact we only got the first one because we had a bunch of CC reward points we had to use or lose, Apple TVs were among the things for which we could redeem the points, and there was nothing else available we wanted. The second one was paid for with my Apple Card cash back. So they were both essentially free.

That being said: We have one more streaming box to replace and two to add. So I will be buying three more of them.

Whenever you're ready. I'll try to keep an eye out. If I miss your follow-ups over there, feel free to hit my email address in my profile to get my attention.
