This is the only firearms forum I frequent. I've tried most of them, mainly the manufacturer supported forums.

Do you have a sense that some people on gun forums are there only to stir up emotions of members? I call them embedded trolls.

Yup, but they reveal themselves given enough time, and usually end with the banhammer

Is anyone with a differing viewpoint a troll?

Reading between the lines, and seeing what's going on elsewhere, this seems to be about people who don't agree with Trumps fighting to the last minute possible about the election, even if his theories about vote fraud are getting shot down in every legal venue in which they've been evaluated.

There is a current thread about a specific firearm that isn’t politicized in the slightest that has become infected by a blatant troll.

As for whether offering a different opinion is being a troll, this from another thread:

“Moderates may be the worst off. Whereas the right wing and left wing can retreat to zones where their views are reinforced rather than vilified, moderates cannot. The moderate who rejects the dominant views of the Left and the Right is shouted down by both sides. For moderates, there exists no safe haven from the culture wars.”

Definitely agree. It's not just a matter of differing viewpoints. It's a matter of repeated efforts larded with every vague attempt at cheap shots possible. It isn't happening here so much, but it's nuts over on the Files.

It’s not just gun forums it’s the internet in general. People are real brave when they can hide behind a keyboard.

Exactly. If you're spreading leftist media, democrat horseshit (but I repeat myself) on this forum as fact, then you're trolling.

Anything and everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, reported by the legacy media is fake. All of it. Some of it might by chance be real, but it is ALL fake. Remember it and live by it.

Thankfully this is an oasis among the other gun forums. Run very well a joy to visit.

Many of the others are far too many;"what do I have, tell me all about it and whats it worth?"and all that from either a lousy description or poor photo.

I would categorize them as "an agitator".

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, things have their place. Right or wrong isn't the point.

For example if I to join a PETA forum and make posts about hunting, I would expect to be banned. And well I should! I certainly don't think I'm going to change anyone's mind with my posts, I know my views will not be welcome, and making them would serve no purpose but to rile people up.

There is a shitload of trolls on most boards, and especially on gun boards. Thankfully we have a bad ass eagle who quickly kicks their ass when they show up here.

good analogy

and one of the left's chief goals is to ALWAYS be pushing their agenda ... a constant effort to push the discussion in the direction of approved leftist doctrine

leftists specifically target and join groups to derail / alter that group's core function : think churches, the boy scouts, youth sports, etc

I prefer to be skeptical of everything news related or how I’m supposed to see the world.

At the same time, I’m open to views that challenge my position. But, at all times, I try to apply my critical thinking skills.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Internet forum misconception: someone who trolls... it's a fishing reference. Throw it out there, drag it through the forum and see if you can get a rise out of someone, get them to take the bait. Nothing to do with mythical creatures living under bridges. Wink
