Never a good time for a "heat dome"
I am grateful that I can escape to the water.

I worked my city's 4th of July fireworks event yesterday afternoon/evening. It was nearing 100 degree heat index with oppressive humidity, and I was in a black uniform and full police kit.

I drank over 1 gallon of water (148 oz), and nearly half a gallon of Gatorade (56 oz), and did not urinate once in 6 hours. Just sweated it all out.

My uniform was so wet that it could not have gotten any wetter if I had jumped into the river.

But it was still fun, despite the miserable working conditions.

A tip if you have to go through this again. This is what I’d do on trackdays in the summer in TX at TWS. Buy Gatorade in the powder form. They sell it on Amazon. I use the Zero version these days. One packet is good for 20 oz of water. Just double it. I still have to do this on the lake here above some 95/96 degrees. Even on the lake, pounding electrolyte water all day, it still gets to you. I’ve been on the lake with Gatorade poured at their recommended amount and it wasn’t enough. 2 packets per 20 oz and even then I’d keep some liquid IV on hand just in case. You think it’s hot in your gear, put on a heavy armored motorcycle suit with chest and back protectors. If you are moving you are alright. After a session you’d think it was a damn strip club with how fast everyone would get out of their gear. I have to mow in this shit in TX all summer but thank God it’s only once per week and I do it at dusk.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Well that was fun. 104 degrees today, all of a sudden 80+mph winds come thru with thunderstorms. Trees and branches down all over. 20 minutes after it started, 74 degrees.

Same here. In my case the acoil has a leak and lost all the refrigerant. Old system using R22A. Replacement acoil is about $450 and R22A is roughly $100/pound, due to the limited availability of R22A. (It’s been banned/discontinued by the Government) So, I feel your pain.

Our AC went out a week ago Thursday. They came out and fixed it the next day, thankfully! In conversation with the AC guy, he told me R22 refrigerant was $300 per pound. Eek

The meteorologist that invented the heat index died last week. He was 84, but he felt 107. Big Grin

"Heat dome" huh? That doesn't sound scary enough. They need to come up with something a little more foreboding like, ATMOSPHERIC RIVER!!!! or SNOWMAGEDDON!!!!. Roll Eyes

Good Lord. It's summer. Newsflash...it gets hot in the summer.

I hate it too, but it'll cool down in a couple of months.
