Vegas is happening this weekend. It's the largest single indoor archery tournament in the world. For the first time in many years, I'm not going to be there and my daughter won't be competing. She's currently in PT rehabbing a trapezius muscle that she stressed.

So I was feeling bummed out last night, working and not being in Vegas when my whole archery family is, I got a text that turned my mood around. Every year the night before Vegas officially starts, there's a money shoot that most of the pros shoot as practice. While it's not big money for them, it's a chance to practice against each other before the tournament. While it's fun they take it seriously.

So an 18 year old young man from our club, who's been a mentor to my daughter for several years, whom I've given countless rides back and forth to the range before he had his driver's license, who started archery on a Groupon qualified in the final flight last night.

The final flight was Mike Schloesser from the Netherlands currently ranked #1 in the world, Reo Wilde currently ranked 16th in the world and 7th in the US and Tate Morgan currently ranked #4 in the US and Cooper French from Arizona.

Cooper won it all last night shooting a perfect 300 with 28 X's. Yes, 28 out of 30 arrows were in the X-ring. Yes, an 18 year old kid from Arizona stood on the line with the best in the world and came out on top.

Hell of a way to start the weekend. And yes, that 18 year kid from Arizona is also shooting in the pro division this weekend.

My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Yes, but can he shoot arrows beneath the neck of his running pony to down a tatonka?
Just kidding.
It’s always a good feeling to hear a success story about someone you know. Way to go coach.

That’s awesome.

I gave him a quick Google and saw this website about him.

Celebrating the success of friends is always better than celebrating my own successes. Congrats to both of you, and I hope your daughter is up for next year's competition.

That's awesome!

Slight drift: After following your Archery posts the last couple years, my 8 year old daughter and I took a Groupon intro class this last weekend at Archery Headquarters. We both had pretty big grins afterwards. She really wants to start lessons now.
