When Para shared Shenandoah, I'm ashamed that I don't recall ever hearing it. So, besides our National Anthem and America the Beautiful, what are other songs that you feel every American should know? It doesn't really matter if it's regional or genre. _____________________________ Off finding Galt's Gulch

Well, ",I'm a good old rebel "by Hout Axton is quite patriotic! ------------------------------------------------------------ "I have resolved to fight as long as Marse Robert has a corporal's guard, or until he says give up. He is the man I shall follow or die in the attempt." Feb. 27, 1865 Letter by Sgt. Henry P. Fortson 'B' Co. 31st GA Vol. Inf.

I don't know if it belongs here, but Kelly Pickler did a rendition of some song - something along the lines of 'Proud to be an American. God Bless the USA' that I've always found poignant. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

^^^^ Lee Greenwood's God Bless The USA If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life And I had to start again with just my children and my wife I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA Well, there's pride in every American heart And it's time we stand and say That I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA Q

Stars and Stripes Forever Words & music: John Philip Sousa 1. Let martial note in triumph float, And liberty extend its mighty hand A flag appears, 'mid thund'rous cheers, The banner of the western land. The emblem of the brave and true, Its folds protect no tyrant crew, The red and white and starry blue, Is freedom's shield and hope. Other nations may deem their flags the best And cheer them with fervid elation, But the flag of the North and South and West Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation. 2. Let eagle shriek from lofty peak, The neverending watchword of our land. Let summer breeze waft through the trees The echo of the chorus grand. Sing out for liberty and light, Sing out for freedom and the right, Sing out for Union and its might, Oh, patriotic sons! Other nations may deem their flags the best And cheer them with fervid elation, But the flag of the North and South and West Is the flag of flags, the flag of Freedom's nation. Refrain: Hurrah for the flag of the free, May it wave as our standard forever, The gem of the land and the sea, The banner of the right. Let despots remember the day When our fathers with mighty endeavor, Proclaim'd as they march'd to the fray, That by their might, and by their right, It waves forever! __________________________

Thanks. Yup, that's it. I guess it was posted already up above. First time I heard the song was when Pickler sang it on Idol. Brought tears to my eyes. I haven't heard it since but I still remember it. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned."
