Knowing is Half the Battle |
Eastbound and Down I listened to the second half of this chase this morning. Iowa State Patrol and local and county law enforcement had their hands full. All I could envision was Convoy/Smokey and the Bandit. They had gotten a trooper pilot to the airport and got a State Patrol plane up in the air following and were getting a Bearcat from somewhere. It was coming into Des Moines on I-80 from the west right at rush hour and the plan was to try to divert it south onto I-35 back into the country but both front tires had been blown and they weren't sure if it could steer. They got 3 SUVs or CMV enforcement pickups in front of it and forced it into a weigh station just west of the Des Moines metro. They had the interstate completely shut down ahead of it. I don't think they tried shooting the air brakes or anything. Driver is in the hospital and no charges yet. Sounds like maybe he was having a medical issue according to the news. They had to use 40mm gas to get him out of the cab. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Scuba Steve Sig,

You could steal City Hall with all those cops in the chase. Reminds me of the guy that stole the tank. Let all Men know thee, but no man know thee thoroughly: Men freely ford that see the shallows. Benjamin Franklin

That was a full blown chase, not a semi chase. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

The number of blue and red flashing lights behind the semi is would be impressive if at the same time someone was robbing a bank. U.S. Army 11F4P Vietnam 69-70 NRA Life Member

Update: https://www.kcci.com/article/i...terstate-80/63080775 Truck driver who led 75-mile chase had ‘visible body tremors’ and ‘convulsions,’ court documents say 6:52 PM CST Dec 4, 2024 New Jersey truck driver Jose Ariel Rosa Rivera has been charged with eluding for Tuesday's 75-mile chase on Interstate 80. According to the criminal complaint, Rosa Rivera was driving a 2021 Volvo semi-truck registered out of Illinois. The criminal complaint also says that when the Iowa State Patrol trooper pulled alongside the vehicle after Rosa Rivera refused to stop, the driver made eye contact with the trooper before looking ahead at the road. Court records show a search warrant was issued for law enforcement to obtain a blood sample from Rosa Rivera to test for alcohol and other drugs. In the search warrant application, law enforcement said Rosa Rivera had bloodshot, watery eyes, "visible body tremors," an elevated pulse while laying in a hospital bed, constricted pupils and "sporadic abdominal convulsing and heavy breathing." The search warrant application also says Rosa Rivera repeatedly stated "Jesus Christ is coming" to law enforcement and medical personnel. Court documents show the search warrant was executed and blood was collected from the suspect and taken to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab for toxicological analysis...

Ya think? Traveling in New Zealand there was a traffic stoppage. I got out and found some folks doing CPR on a young black man who had driven a delivery van off the road. They were following orders from the EMS dispatcher. Funny thing, though, he would suddenly move, assume the fetal position, then go back to catatonic. I'd only seen that kind of thing once before and, yes, drugs were involved. I never found out for sure, but I'd bet dollars to donuts they were here. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"
