Porch roof supports all the way to the ground VS. to the porch Login/Join

The roof of my porch is currently supported by 4 4x4s on the front edge of the porch.
Those 4x4s are about 7’ tall and sit directly on the porch. The front of my porch is starting to slope down at the front quite substantially and needs some repair.
So I am
Thinking I will use 6x6 posts and support the porch roof from the ground and not the porch. Then I should be able to jack the front of the deck up removing the slope.
Yes, I know that the porch is supposed to be sloped away from the house slightly for water drainage purposes it has sunk to much.

Or do I just jack to porch up and keep the roof supports to the porch?

The first thing I would fix whatever is causing the front of the porch to sink.

What I would do from there would depend on the condition of the 4x4s, the roof, the deck, and what’s supporting the deck.

Now that there’s a picture, I’d run that downspout out away from the porch.

Looks like the whole right side of the porch is sinking down.

I don’t think it’s a post issue necessarily.

As was mentioned above I would run the downspouts away from the porch.

Just an opinion from the picture.

I agree, get that water runoff under control first. Or it won’t really matter if the uprights are bottomed on the brick or the ground.

Its been my experience that most porch footing are not dug out and poured to the correct depth or width.
Whats code for the depth in your area?

Agree with the hive.

As a retired GC the first thing I’d do is remove the metal skirting to get a better idea of what is behind there. Chances are the porch is not supported with concrete footers and that would be the first order of business. You will probably have to temporarily support the porch/roof a foot or so away from where you’ll dig the hole.

If possible then replace the post that supports the porch with a treated 6x6. Do this for all the supports adjusting as necessary to get a level porch.

The porch only needs to have a slight slope IF there is no gap between the decking boards which doesn’t appear to be the case.

How much are you willing to invest into the house / porch and, how many years do you want it to last?

Those answers will help guide you to what needs to be done. Wink

Sounds like a smart plan, you need to get to the bottom of the supports under the porch and level it there, the posts don't look to be the problem.

Good catch on the downspouts I’ll run those out for sure.
So the front corners of the deck are on maybe in concrete. You can kind of see the concrete if you zoom in. I am not sure if there is any concrete footing along the front but I am guessing not.
I do need to pull that underpinning to get a better idea of what I am working with.
