Brain Trust Question - Glue
Recently I replaced the thermal fuse on a food processor. To do so I used a dental pick to remove 4 hole punch-sized pieces of plastic that covered the screws on the top of the unit.

I need to glue or seal those back down on top of the screws. The caps and the sealant keeps water from getting into the machine as well as food etc...

I need a sealant or glue that will hold the hole-punch-sized plastic in place, be water-resistant. Yet allow me to peel them off again should the thermal fuse pop once more.

You can see exactly what I'm looking at in Step 7 of this how-to guide.
Food Processor Repair

The glue that was in there was rubber-like. I cleaned it out with the dental pick, was easy to do. Seemed like a solid gel, filled in the space between the cap and the screw head and the screw head itself.

I have various CA glues, but that would preclude me from ever fixing it again.

Any Suggestions?

thanks in advance

Sounds a lot like E6000 and/or Shoe Goo.

Clear, quite strong, elastic.

The hot glue may not be as water-resistant as you might like. I recently used this to reattach a rubber ring to the bottom of the dog's stainless steel water bowl. Lasted about ten days before it started to separate. I'll be trying an alternative next time.

I know something about this type of glue. I would use shoe-goo.

Butyl "tape" perhaps? Water will not penetrate and it stays malleable and can be removed. We use it to "bed" hardware on the decks of boats. I use it in any situation that I don't want moisture to penetrate.

Silicone sounds good to me. I don't know what the smallest roll of butyl tape you could buy is.

Both would work, silicone is probably less expensive for the amount you need.

Clear silicone or RTV. You should be able to color match the RTV, so that would be fancier.

I always keep a tube of this stuff around. Many uses and it stores well even after opening.
