As much as I like my modern Seiko watches, I think if I were to be pushed into a ten-year bad-environment event, I'd go back to my old Seiko SNA195.



This watch was literally my daily-wear for over 20 years. Light work, hard work, sand, surf, ocean, lake, snowstorm, mountain biking, .... The only thing that's gotten the better of this watch was my getting a handle on the old Bridgeport caught under the band once, tearing loose the end link. (Big thanks to our member Brian O for finding the replacement!) I suppose I'd have to pack a battery or two and a small press before that trip.

I'm not sure I can answer the no-limitation question well. I'd probably go with a solar quartz rather than an automatic/mechanical, but I don't think I'd go high-dollar, given the promise of a harsh environment. Perhaps a Seiko SNE435 or similar.

Considering it's a watch that does not get special treatment it holds up well. With that said it does have a few surface scratches on the underside of the bracelet.

That Steinhart has seen multiple hunting trips, tuna fishing trips, working on construction projects around the house and it has held up nicely.

My Seiko Shogun is also a very nice titanium watch.

My Citizen Eco-Drive, U600 movement. It’s 12 yrs old and going strong. Including 2 deployments.

My new timepiece, self charges with sunlight and as a legit dive watch should handle the environment noted.

One pointed recommendation I have: Their rubber strap and steel bracelet are both of exceptional quality, but if you want to get one or more straps to give yourself some different options, I will tell you what I’ve found after a dozen or more different ones.

These 4 buckle Zulu straps by Maratac/Countycomm support that weight better than any others I’ve used. Lesser straps tend to dig into your wrist from the watch pulling with movement. It took me a long time to find the best option. But any of these in 22mm.

Thanks for the note about the straps…is it difficult to swap them out? I’m used to the quick release on my Garmin Fenix, the Marathon bracelet looks like it is not going anywhere very easily.

There is a technique to swapping them out. Getting the stainless steel one off is easier than putting it back on. One has to go slow and deliberate to avoid scratching the lugs. A push pin/thumb tac or a specific watch pin tool and patience is all you really need. A thin piece of plastic like a flimsy store card or similar can help get the pins slid back in without scratching when you decide to put the bracelet back on.

Once you get the bracelet off and the pins in, swapping Zulu straps is a breeze (you may already know that).

I switch between them all pretty frequently. Except the supplied rubber strap unfortunately doesn’t fit my wrist comfortably.

Yeah, that Marathon looks great, just about perfect IMO.

I've read many descriptions of this watch. A beast. A tank. Actually for me it wears a little smaller than expected.

For allowing me here for the past 20 years, how about I offer up one of my Swiss chronographs?

It's the least I can do.

I don't wear either of them and they are extremely robust watches just going to waste.

Whichever you don't choose, I will karma off. You get one and some lucky member gets the other.

Both have the Swiss ETA 7750 automatic movement.

This one is a Victorinox Swiss Army 45mm. It's a beast.


This one is a Bulova Accu-Swiss 40mm.

I’ve had my stainless Rolex Date Just 42 years. 3 cleanings/service now. Still going strong. Beat up. Broken crystal replaced.

On Countycomm.com, they have heavy duty spring bars, I recommend getting them, they really do hold up better!

Mars, that's very generous of you and I appreciate it sincerely, but how about if you karma both watches to the members? Of course you don't have to do anything at all.

When I was working harder, I had settled on a Luminox.
Kept perfect time and had a battery I could replace every few years. Extremely scratch resistant crystal and very tough.
Very bright and easy to read in the dark or low light.
