So long as the pensions are paid, nothing will change. When the day comes pensions cannot be paid in full, then change will come.

I know there are some here who earned or are working toward a government pension from NJ, be it State, County, or local. I mean you no disrespect, but there is a class system there, and government workers at at the top of it.

Votes have been bought with promises no amount of taxes can pay for. It is a giant ponzi scheme.

Chris Sturm, a water policy expert with New Jersey Future, a nonprofit that advocates a balance between economic development and environmental protection. “It’s an important tool. It’s one that can make a significant difference in the right towns.”

Now there's a unicorn for you. A new taxing ability, but only cities that really, really have a need will use it. Ha!

Maybe they can dress as Indians and dump the rain into the harbor to protest the taxes.

State, County and Local are all in the Same Pension system. Teachers are part of the pension. I paid into the system, the State literally borrowed money we put in it and invested it poorly and now refuse to pay it back. While we had a decent pension system, the rank and file worker makes less than the private sector employee. We knew this going in. We get less pay but a decent pension. Anyone have 401K with their employer? That is your pension system. What do we have to do to collect our pension? Stay on for 25 years. During this time 17% of our pay went into the pension and also pay for medical. The myth that there is a free ride for state workers is not true.

This is all based on Federal EPA regulations. Every city of any decent size has to comply with the regulations BUT, some are doing so without adding additional taxes. I work for the State of TN and we inspect the programs of the cities in our area with regards to their compliance with these federal rules. Most of the cities in our district have not implemented any new fee or tax program - they just take a cut out of the city budget and use that...
