I need a scanner that can scan slides. I would like to digitize my Dad's collection. Which is going to be a very big project. Any recommendations?

I use this method even though I have a good Nikon film scanner:

Using slide copier and DSLR

Edited to add: you will get better responses if you specify what kind of "scanner" you are interested in, not police scanners or paper scanners. Or better yet describe what you want to do and people can advise how best to do it, not limit responses to scanners alone.

I've had very good luck for years with Epson flat bed scanners for all kinds of copies. I use them to scan in photos, film, slides and other specialties.
Good for casual and professional work.

The Nikon Coolscan 5000 with the slide attachment was the way a number of years ago. The Coolscan scanners have appreciated a huge amount since Nikon stopped making them.

If this works, it would probably be a bargain compared with other Ebay listings. One would probably need to use Vuescan to make it work with Windows 7 or 10.

Goose,
I would recommend taking the slides to Costco and having them scan them to digital.

You can get them on DVD or thumbdrive.

This is an after hours service Costco offers, and they do it in a pretty short time. I had them digitize a bunch of negatives and slides a few years ago and they did a great job.

Don't know if the Costco thing would work. My Dad took well over 1,000 slides. I'm sure I could edit it down to maybe 300. He refused to stop most of the time and took a lot of guard rail pictures.

I used this company http://www.digitalmemoriesonline.net/ about 10 years ago. They did a very good job on my slides to digital. Was a reasonable price back then but don't know what it is now. It was a better price than what I could get them done for locally.

I second the Costco recommendation. We've taken some of dad's Kodachromes from our youth in for scanning and they do a great job. You might want to do a little dusting/cleaning action on the best ones beforehand.
