My son Wants to see Steph curry when they play in Memphis. I couldnt care less but his mother got him tickets. I am familiar with Germantown but I don’t know how close that is to the game. Ideally I would like to stay close to the event if it was safe. The Westin is booked up. Also are there metal detectors at the game? ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! I’d stay in Germantown. It’ll be about a 30 minute drive to the forum but much safer than anywhere else. Yes they do use metal detectors at the forum as well. If you have a pocket knife they’ll make you throw it away or return it to your vehicle. I’d also highly recommend getting a parking pass for the garage attached to the forum as well. I’m not much a basketball fan either, however I went last night and had a great time. If you really want to stay downtown, I’d check out the BassPro pyramid and see what rooms they have available. It’s a really cool store. Posted from my iPhone.

I would second the Bass Pro hotel because it’s pretty nice and a cool experience. The only other property downtown I’d stay at is the Peabody. Otherwise, I stay in Germantown which doesn’t really get you away from Memphis crime. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

As a local..... One choice only - Peabody Hotel with parking in their garage. Skip the Bass Pro Shops hotel. Thugs are busting windows and stealing anything. Otherwise, stay in Germantown or Collierville. No question. Skip Beale Street, nothing there to see worth mentioning. It looks pretty close on the map. Safe to walk to the game from there? ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

It's a big city NBA game, Memphis is going to have plenty of law enforcement out, and lots of people going to the game. Should be no issue with taking your son to the game. Go, have fun, forget the issues with the NBA and politics and just enjoy the event for what it is since your son is into the player and game.

Nice thoughts but not entirely realistic. Memphis PD is down/deficient about 500 officers on a force of 2500. Last class to graduate academy... 54!! And after the last big media story, I'm sure there is to be another big exodus of officers for the retirement/don't give a shit door. More over, that area of downtown is tourist mecca and they have/carry money. So thugs are starting to rob/pillage/steal where the money is and not in the hood where it's not. Crime is skyrocketing in Germantown/Collierville. Thats more affluent communities. Personlly, I don't go downtown for ANYTHING, EVER!! To answer Ruger357 question... yes... it is one or two blocks out the side/back entrance from Peabody Hotel. Keep your head on a swivel. Drop a folding knife in your shoe. They don't get that specific with wanding. Enjoy the game and the memories. Andrew Duty is the sublimest word in the English Language - Gen Robert E Lee.

Agree 100%. Overall, Germantown out east is the far better option, but as you know, be "switched on" anywhere near Memphis.

Interesting the arena here is downtown Orlando, right on the edge of Paramore and Pine Hills aka Crime Hills, areas with high crime, drugs, prostitutes, (yep even in Disneys back yard we have hookers n blow). Agree that if you park in the wrong areas you are close to the crime zone, however the NBA team owners are big money people, with lots of political clout, so at least here, we see plenty of police presence around the arena at game times. As with anything, keeping your eyes up and being alert is key. Memphis is another world no doubt. Staying where you can easily walk to the arena and don't have to hassle with traffic and parking makes the most sense, and you'd be walking to and from the game in a crowd of like minded people.

I just hope the star players actually play. NBA has become notorious for players resting under the guise of "load management" where the star players will take games off to rest for later in the season. These are the same guys who say the guys who played in the 80s and 90s were athletically inferior yet these new age guys have charter flights (no more buses), dieticians, chefs, personal trainers, team doctors, advanced medicine, the best hotels, yet have to take games off to rest while working class people pay top dollar. _____________
