Persistence pays off. They did not give up. Smash and grab with a truck

Surveillance video captured three people using a stolen pickup truck to break into a Central City convenience store early Tuesday (Aug. 22), the footage showing the moment the trio rammed the back of the truck into the store before stealing an ATM from inside, police said.

The burglary took place about 4:23 a.m. at the Fast Stop Convenience Store in the 2700 block of S. Broad Street, police said.

Surveillance footage shows the trio backing a white Ford pickup into the storefront several times before the rear of the truck crashes through the glass.

The group is then seen removing the store's ATM, placing the machine into the rear cargo area of a waiting van, according to the NOPD.

The three then fled in both vehicles, police said.

Officers later found the stolen Ford pickup, which had been abandoned.

The Tuesday theft bears striking resemblances to a pair of ATM thefts reported recently at convenience stores in Metairie.

In the first theft, reported about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 13, someone rammed a stolen white pick-up truck through the front window of a Brother's on the South I-10 Service Road and loaded the ATM into the back of the vehicle, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The second theft occurred about 5 a.m. Saturday at a Brother's on Airline Drive. There, a truck crashed through the storefront before four men muscled the store's ATM into the bed of the truck and drove off.

I think most ATM's have GPS units in them now.

Fewer have trackers than you would imagine. Very few "retail" ATMs, and even Bank ATMs only have them in high risk situations.
