I think it's a disassembled vacuum seal lid for a square or rectangular container.

Put lid on container, push large button which expels some air, and then the outside air pressure keeps the lid on securely.

Above is correct. My wife is well invested in that “system”. Keeps our shit fresh though.

The reviews in the above link aren't very positive. Even if the system worked, how is it any better than a Tupperware?

I didn't see any reviews in that link, but Tupperware isn't all that great either. No matter how carefully I "burp" the (Tupperware) lid after it's on, it always seems to have un-burped itself when I take it back out of the fridge. It's a lot better than nothing and I use them all the time, but it's not a good long-term storage solution.

We use that canister for oatmeal, sugar, etc. It is superior to Tupperware because it is one-hand fast and easy to take off or put on. The seal is good enough for dry goods we regularly use. Not good enough for prepper long term storage.

That would be a plus.

I was going to ask what took him so long. LOL

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." They aren't that secure. If you even slightly tug at the closed lid, it can come off. I almost had a REALLY shitty day when I nearly dropped the 5lb container of flour and caught it partially by the lid. I've starting to phase out all of those containers for triple clamping stainless steel ones.

YMMV, but I love the few I have work great for easy access to things that get opened almost every day and I like to keep fresh: Coffee beans, ground coffee, dog dental chew/treats, rice, oatmeal/granola.

I used to keep one in the back of my Diesel VW for the (Stinky) fuel additive/nozzle adaptor
