wishing we were congress |
https://www.chicagotribune.com...-20190225-story.html Chicago voters will head to the polls Tuesday to pick from a record 14 contenders to become the city’s next mayor, an exercise that almost certainly will narrow the field down to two finalists rather than decide an outright winner. If no candidate eclipses 50 percent of the vote — a high likelihood given the sheer number of names on the ballot — then the top two finishers will move on to an April 2 runoff to determine who will succeed eight-year incumbent Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Many of the campaigns privately have acknowledged they are hoping to surpass 20 percent of the vote to secure a spot in the runoff, with some believing a finish in the high teens may be enough to get the job done. the 2019 field of mayoral candidates is the largest in Chicago’s 181-year history Candidates: Bill Daley, former United States Commerce Secretary Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board president Garry McCarthy, former police superintendent under Emanuel Lori Lightfoot, former assistant US attorney Jerry Joyce, former Cook County state's attorney Paul Vallas, former Chicago Public Schools CEO Gery Chico, former chief of staff to former Mayor Richard Daley Willie Wilson, business owner Susana Mendoza, former city clerk La Shawn Ford, Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives Robert Fioretti, former alderman Amara Enyia, community activist John Kozlar, attorney Neal Sáles-Griffin, CEO of the nonprofit CodeNow

Given their current or, past listed positions, I think it's a safe assumption that they all are.

not sure of the implications, but the election is called "nonpartisan" more on the candidates here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ago_mayoral_election

Never miss an opportunity to be Batman! |
For local members in Chicago, what is the over/under on the number of dead people voting? An election ain't over until the graves have voted.....it is the Chicago way.

They are all Democrats/Leftist/Socialists. There hasn't been a conservative candidate in over 90 years. Why mess with success now? The Working Police..... "We the willing, led by the unknown, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful."

Like a party in your pants |
There MIGHT be a Republican party in Chicago/Cook county but you would never know it. I live in a area that actually has Republicans. I received a mailing and text messages from some Republican committee that endorses Willie Wilson, Really sad if that's our best option.

I'd say mostly dead, at least in the brain. Seems that there will no doubt be a run-off. Voter turnout so far is very low. In the run-off, it will probably be between Daley and Preckwinkle. Then the news outlets will go nuts since it will be a white candidate vs a black candidate. In this race, everyone loses, it's just how much. The Working Police..... Are you kidding? Politics is the latest "get rich quick" scheme. Look at all the paupers who entered "public office" years ago and retired among the 1%. You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member

Exactly. The city is heading to be the new Detroit. Junk bond status, pension liabilities that will take decades if not a century to fix, infrastructure nightmares with roads, bridges and buildings are just the tip of the iceberg. The parking meter deal appears to be the final nail in the coffin, since a casino won't be the answer, and the legalization/taxation of marijuana won't fill the void either. This city is out of viable revenue ideas and with the influx of illegal immigrants taking what's left of our resources, it looks very grim. I for one don't think Chicago can be saved by itself or state, and I don't think the federal government will/should step in. The Working Police..... I believe you have to be dead to vote multiple times in Chicago. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

WILLIE! WILLIE! WILLIE! If anything solidifies how right the "South Park" episode on voting is, it would be the Chicago election. Big, Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich Just 12 more shitty candidates tossed in the mix. I doubt anyone will get 50.1%, so this is headed to a run-off. Prick-winkle? You think Nagen in NOLA wanted a "Chocolate City", just wait to see what this shit-bird does. It WILL BE "Thunderdome" before summer. Willie Wilson? There's what "Affrmitive Action" gets you. Given everything just because of his skin color. Everything but IQ points. Lightfoot? Think "Prickwinkle" light... We're fucked. Another "Thunderdome" scenario. McCarthy? He's the smartest one in the room at all times. Don't worry, you don't have to ask him, he'll tell you. Fuck that carpet bagger, he can take his drunk ass back to Jersey/ New York. Mendoza is the female Hispanic version of Wilson, except she landed a job in politics vs fry cook at McDonalds. According to her commercial, she is the 1st female soccer player in history. Chico, socialist. Need I say more? Enyia? Community activists. We ALL KNOW how well our last community activist did. Daley? Part and parcel of the Machine. Dad, brother and him... He's got obama on his commercial, so a lot of the mindless democrats will vote for him automatically. Joyce? Good guy, but has no chance. His dad was former senator, had to step down because one of the other sons was a fuck-up and involved in a cocaine scandal back in '88. Vallas? Another good choice, but has no chance. He really turned around Chicago Public Schools years ago under the Daley Jr regime, but was a political threat to Daley, so Vallas magically was offered another job in Philly, paying a whole lot more. He was made "An offer he couldn't refuse", all orchestrated by Daley. So, if you're the TL/DR type, I'll sum it all up: Chicago is fucked, or REALLY FUCKED depending on who wins. (Klusk & Bulldog, in case you were wondering, I landed in 008 on afternoons. Not my 1st choice, but I'm not complaining at all!) ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. You can only vote for one candidate but if you’re voting for Daley you can vote more then once. And if you only vote once don’t worry, there are three other ballots with your name and choice already filled in in a ballot box that is currently sitting in a church basement. Laughing in the face of danger is all well and good until danger laughs back.

Well... I don't think Chicago can be saved by itself either, but I sure as hell don't think other people should be put on the hook for the corruption and incompetence of Chicago politicians. Bankruptcy is the only answer. Just like Detroit. The bondholders suffer the most in a bankruptcy but they were stupid enough to think loaning money to the City of Chicago was a good idea. They deserve to get whacked. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor
