Maduro Declared Venezuelan President For 3rd Term, But Opposition Claims Victory In 'Stolen' Election

Update(02:00ET): The Venezuelan government has announced official election results shortly after midnight: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has won a third term with 51% of the vote, announced the country’s electoral authority, with 80% of ballot boxes counted. But there are widespread reports that several key exit polls pointed to a huge opposition upset victory by Edmundo González.

The opposition is claiming victory and that the election has been stolen amid reports that Maduro's security forces have deployed significant numbers of armored vehicles and heavily armed-police to the streets of Caracas ahead of likely unrest.

The opposition is further calling on the military to turn against Maduro and back the 'rightful' victory of Gonzalez.

The Associated Press has detailed in an overnight update:

Venezuela’s opposition claimed Edmundo González defeated President Nicolás Maduro in Sunday’s presidential election, setting up a showdown with the government, which earlier declared Maduro the winner.

“The Venezuelans and the entire world know what happened,” González said in his first remarks. Opposition leader María Corina Machado made the announcement standing alongside González, whose margin of victory she said was “overwhelming.” Earlier the opposition said it had obtained voting tallies from about 30% of ballot boxes nationwide, with more expected overnight.

The National Electoral Council, which is controlled by Maduro loyalists, has yet to provide the tallies from 30,000 polling booths nationwide.

Regardless of what actually happen or what will happen in terms of the possibility of violence, it's clear that the leftist and socialist Venezuelan government just suffered its most significant electoral test and shock in decades.

Some regional and external governments have signaled they will not recognize Maduro's 'win'...

President Nicolas Maduro alarmed and riled his enemies as well as Washington and its allies by declaring just ahead of Sunday’s elections: "If you don’t want Venezuela to fall into a bloodbath, into a fratricidal civil war, due to the fascists, let’s ensure the greatest success and greatest victory in the electoral history of our people."

Many pundits are taking this as a warning that he'll refuse to give up power in the unlikely event he loses his bid for six more years in office, which would be his third term. While there are eight names total on the ballot as Venezuelans wait in long lines to vote Sunday, 74-year old opposition candidate and former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia is considered the only real contender who has a chance of defeating Maduro.

This is relevant here for two reasons:
1. It demonstrates that you can vote your way into socialism, but you can't vote your way out.

2. More will flood our borders.

Maduro and his United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) have ruled over the central American country since 2013, after he took over following the death of his mentor, far-left icon Hugo Chavez.

Millions of desperate citizens have already left their country in search of work and opportunities abroad amid a crushed economy and rampant accusations of corruption against Maduro government officials. Millions more may leave if his power is extended for another term.

Vice President Kamala Harris:
quote:
The United States stands with the people of Venezuela who expressed their voice in today’s historic presidential election. The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected. Despite the many challenges, we will continue to work toward a more democratic, prosperous, and secure future for the people of Venezuela.

This entire statement is Orwellian.

When she says "The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected."... what she means is the exact opposite.

Here is the NY Times take on the election.

It’s already clear that the election won’t be entirely free or fair.

Mr. Maduro, 61, controls the legislature, the military, the police, the justice system, the national election council and much of the media, not to mention violent paramilitary gangs.

And FYI- The law requires voters in Venezuela register their fingerprints and ID card details onto the Electoral Register, and these are to be verified during the voting process.

Won by 51.20% of the vote. At least, they're not completely corrupt.

I remember a national election in another third world country, the opposition candidate received ZERO votes in his hometown. He said, "Never mind the votes cast by my family, what about my vote for myself!!!"

That was corrupt-in-your-face.

An FYI: in the 2020 election, Biden "won" Arizona by approx. 10,000 votes, less than 1%. In Georgia- a little over 11,000 votes, less than 1%. Pennsylvania by 80,000 votes, approx. 1.15%. Wisconsin by 20,000 votes same percentage. These are some of the states that stopped the count on election night, all with Trump leading before the stop. And "won" by just enough.

Venezuela: Electoral fraud, right in their faces

An old truism in politics is that if the win is big enough, the other guy can't steal it.

Venezuela's latest election just put paid to that nonsense. Any filthy tyrant, especially a socialist with a lot to hide and a will to entrench himself in permanent power, can steal an election ... right in front of his voters' faces.

And in the case of Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, be perfectly confident that he'll always get away with it. The opposition will be told to accept the result and go prepare for the next election six years from now. The West will wring its hands a bit, and just go along. Venezuelans have seen this movie before.

Which is why Joe Biden's decision to drop sanctions on Venezuela in exchange for "free and fair elections" was such a disgusting deal, empowering the Maduroites to steal themselves another election, and enjoy the newly freed-up money, which included buying guns to fire into crowds, and then taking out the opposition afterwards through lawfare. That's what Maduro is doing now.

Quite a steal for Maduro, and in more ways than one.

The hopes were so high, the polls were so strong, and the opposition candidate, Maria Corina Machado, (along with her designated surrogate after she was disqualified from running, Edmundo González), was so spotless, that the only question left in this election was how Maduro was going to get out of this one. He was going to lose; the crowds were out there, the slums had turned against him, the Venezuelans were rallying for Machado, and the polls were scarily unified showing gargantuan majorities in support of her and González.

Every dirty trick in the book was tried -- from disqualifying Machado, to disqualifying overseas voters, to creating confusing ballots, to arresting Machado's aides and even her security chief, hauling them all off, to attempting to kill her by cutting the brake hoses to her campaign's cars, which happened several days ago. Every dirty trick.

Sound familiar?

With every one of those acts foiled, Maduro got what he wanted through his customary method, which was stealing the election, same as Venezuela's socialists have been doing since 2004, through already-cast ballots, problems at polling stations, a mysterious stoppage of counting at midnight, followed by a change of direction in the voting, illogical turnout numbers, and a reported close result.

President Javier Milei of Argentina, wasting no time after hearing this nakedly fraudulent election result, with this blast:

https://x.com/JMilei/status/18..._fair_elections.html

Translation:

DICTATOR MADURO, GET OUT!!!

Venezuelans chose to end the communist dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. The data announce a crushing victory for the opposition and the world is waiting for it to recognize defeat after years of socialism, misery, decadence and death. Argentina is not going to recognize another fraud, and hopes that the Armed Forces this time will defend democracy and the popular will. Freedom Advances in Latin America.

Which was exactly what was needed, the right response. That's how you treat street criminals, mafiosos, dirtbags, lowlife, who lie and cheat. They only understand the language of force and must be spoken to in direct language. What's more, he acted fast, which is all they respond to. He wasn't interested in the niceties of commissions and truth committees and extended investigation, which would only serve to entrench Maduro in power and at most make him promise to do better next time.

Milei delivered.

He released this one in, too, addressing and encouraging the Venezuelan voters:

And this:

Venezuela strong: “It is better to live in a risky liberty than a peaceful slavery. Long live f***ing freedom.”

DHS confirmed that Venezuela cleared out the life sentence criminals from their jails and the people in their rehab centers Ang gave them a one way trip to the U.S. with their promise of never coming back.

Then Venezuela started bragging about how low their crime has begun.

There was a video on social that showed billiards of people being dropped of in the U.S. and most of the guys getting off still had ankle monitors on.

US recognizes opposition candidate González as the winner of Venezuela’s presidential election

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — The U.S. government on Thursday recognized Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo González as the winner of the South American country’s presidential election, discrediting the results announced by electoral authorities who declared President Nicolás Maduro the victor.

“Given the overwhelming evidence, it is clear to the United States and, most importantly, to the Venezuelan people that Edmundo González Urrutia won the most votes in Venezuela’s July 28 presidential election,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

The National Electoral Council declared Maduro the winner of Sunday’s highly anticipated election, but the president’s main challenger, González, and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado have said they obtained more than two-thirds of the tally sheets that each electronic voting machine printed after polls closed.

They said the release of the data on those tallies would prove Maduro lost.

The announcement from the U.S. government came amid diplomatic efforts to persuade Maduro to release vote tallies from the election and increasing calls for an independent review of the results, according to officials from Brazil and México.

I've learned that, to leftists, "democracy" is a euphemism for "socialism". Makes perfect sense when they call Trump a threat to democracy.

The same people who also talked endlessly about "election deniers". Of course these same people, the ones who used the line "threat to democracy" 36k times in the last six months, just installed a presidential candidate who wasn't elected to the spot.
