Coffee black, cream & suger, or....
Black as night
Hot as Hell
Sweet as love;

so goes the Arabic fable I was told.
I like mine like that. Except the sweet part.

Coffee is not a condiment,

The range of flavors coming from 'bold' verges on endless.

Two splenda, splash of milk.

If it's a quality cup of coffee, black. If it's an average cup or worse, I'll add some cream. Never sugar, unless the style demands it like Greek or Turkish coffee.

The only cold coffee I like is Vietnamese iced coffee.

I didn't start drinking coffee till my mid-30s. Even today if have a cup I max out at one in the morning. I also want mine as fufu as possible. White chocolate mocha latte...sure. Campfire mocha...yep. At home I'll typically brew one of the HEB varieties we keep on hand through the Chemex along with a little cream and sugar. My wife has a Keurig that we have Caribou k-cups for, so sometimes I'll use that, but still with the cream and sugar.

I grew up with a family that loved what I called "gas station coffee." You know, that quarter of a pot or less sitting in that dirty, stained pot, stinking like it was fresh burned yesterday. My wife (the Nurse in her, I suppose) liked the same stuff and then, after Law School, I met my soon to be trial partner for the next quarter century and guess how he liked his coffee? Yuck!!

I never liked coffee. All the way through the Army during the SE Asian affair, then as a young cop, I hated coffee.

I think it was because if I wanted something to drink, I wanted something cold. I put ice in my tea, ice in my Cokes, ice in my water (if there wasn't anything else to drink-I hate water).

Finally, I managed to start drinking the stuff. Not gas station coffee, rather I ground my beans, used hoity-toity water, strong and dark and tried a bunch of ways to brew it. I got along for the next 20-25 years.

Then, maybe five years ago, I tried a cold brew. Life was good again! I learned to make my own (same deal with the beans and water and learning different ways to brew it), but it's great. I prefer it with a bit of half and half and some Splenda, but I can drink it black, too. The trick is, for me, that it's COLD!

I make my own six days a week and, on Sunday, we have sausage and eggs (that's real pork sausage) along with store-bought LaColombe's darkest (my favorite).

Since my wife and her friends are over in Tampa at the Outback Bowl, I'm just about to pretend today is Sunday and pop the top, so to speak on an ice-cold bottle of LaColumbe and maybe even have some sausage and eggs.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Bob

Cream/creamer and real sugar. Or flavored creamers, like Peppermint Mocha and Hazelnut in moderation. Not a fan of French Vanilla, but Irish Creme from a real bottle of Bailey's works well. As SigM4, my favorite brand of k-cups are from Caribou.

My wife bought me an espresso machine a few birthdays ago. Since then, I’ve been making my own americano every morning. A couple shots of espresso, and some hot water. I usually doctor it up with some half & half, but nothing else.

I can’t stand the “creamers” or other flavored products and I don’t do sugar.

In that sense, I disagree with the original suggestion that it’s black or everything else. Given the choice between black and any of the flavored, sweet, or fake/processed additives, I would go black. But, if there’s half & half around, I like to take the edge off with it.

Splash of heavy cream for me.

I roast my own, spoiling us for any other coffee. I started years ago with a whisk and a dedicated cast iron pot on a hot plate.

I graduated to one of these:

The only coffee I drink nowadays is at home. For espresso, I drink it black. For any regular size coffee, I'll use Splenda and splash of evaporated milk.

I like my 4 packets of splenda and a ton of CoffeMate French Vanilla with my splash of coffee.

Hot and black. Took me awhile to like coffee. At first it was nasty. But as I got older I started enjoying it. At first I used cream and sugar,, then just cream,, then when I was too lazy to walk aways and get milk,, I decided I like black coffee. Only way I’ll drink it now.

In the morning, I like a splash of half/half in my coffee. If I drink coffee in the afternoon, it's always black.

Go figure.

Oh, I can't believe someone here said Folgers Colombian blend is just an average coffee. Damn.

I don't mind it black and will drink it that way, but I do prefer a little milk to smooth it out.
Haven't used any kind of sweetener in decades. I also hate flavored coffee.

Black at home, or a Pete’s coffee pod at work. But if we’re traveling about and my choice is gas station or nothing, I’ll throw some awful creamer in to take away the bite. Not really a coffee snob, but I’ve gotten used to my pour over at home lately and enjoyed it at work when my middle eastern friend would make a little copper pot of Turkish coffee for us to share. Unfortunately he was too good to stay and moved on to greener pastures.

I neglected to add in my earlier comment that if the beans are quality, properly roasted, and freshly ground (I do that at home), drinking it black is very enjoyable. Lesser offerings necessitate some cream, half 'n half, or milk to smooth things out.
