So, Elon thinks people without kids ought not vote, eh?

Elon Musk supports eliminating voting rights for people without children.

Critics have accused Mr Musk of holding eugenecist views about populations.

Over the weekend, Elon Musk appeared in a Twitter post to endorse the idea of taking the right to vote away from people without children.

The billionaire Tesla co-founder replied “Yup,” to a series of posts from Twitter user @fentasyl, which argued “democracy is probably unworkable long term without limiting suffrage to parents.”

The exchange came as Mr Musk continued his recent run of interacting with right-wing figures on the social network.

The posts from fentasyl themselves were a response to a previous post from Mr Musk.

On Saturday, in the comments under an Islamophobic nonprofit’s video, where commenters insinuated that single white women were turning France into a majority-Muslim country, Mr Musk claimed, “The childless have little stake in the future.”

The Independent has contacted Mr Musk for comment.

I've enjoyed a lot of things Elon has done and said, but I'm not a fan of this one.

God bless America.

I saw that as well. I am a fan of Elon, but that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. A large portion of the people I see that are breeding shouldn't be.

I think you have to have skin in the game and at least pay taxes. Not just fill out taxes and get everything back plus some, but who actually hand over money to Uncle Sugar and his cronies, and watch them laugh as they stuff it in their pockets to give to the ones that shouldn't vote. Owning land, or owning a legitimate business could be a factor as well.

Or answer questions about each candidate you are voting for. And get those answers fact checked. Don't know your shit, don't get to vote.

But on the other hand, I may just be an asshole.

Elon is hit and miss. Like pretty much everyone I’ve ever met, including myself, sometimes they say something real stupid.

I also believe you should have skin in the game in order to vote. Paying taxes is a good line for me. I don’t think anyone who doesn’t pay taxes should be able to vote.

My wife struggles with an 'all or nothing' mindset, on occasion. For instance, she had grown to enjoy the commentary by Matt Walsh quite a bit, until he said one thing she didn't agree with. Then he was out. I point out that we need not agree with everything somebody says, thinks, or believes, and that it is ok.

Same with Elon. All his ideas can't be winners. I can understand where he is coming from, but he hasn't drawn the right conclusion, it seems.

Kinda related, Vivek Ramaswamy has spoken about restricting voting rights. I've heard several of his interviews over the past month and don't remember which one it was on, but basically he was saying that citizenship doesn't automatically equal voting rights, though it does guarantee other freedoms and rights.

As I recall he tied the voting requirements to people who had a stake in the game and provided several examples... people who serve the country such as military, medical personnel, first responders, business owners. Also, raising hte general age to 25 was something he mentioned and also passing a civics test.

Interesting thought that I'd like to hear more discussions on.

Excellent idea.
It would eliminate the last iota of guilt I might have for sharing in responsibility for the state of the nation.

Elon is a genius. A lot of people don't understand him. He's also probably struggles with several diagnosable mental conditions not considered to be "normal."

It must suck to have your every thought and word taken out of context and used in a hit piece against you.

The man is not perfect, and I certainly don't agree with him on a lot of things, but he is a brilliant mind who's contributed more to the world and our country than probably 99% or more.

I think people who can't pass a decent U.S. history test (including Gov't & Civics) should be allowed to vote.

I also think people who don't own and regularly shoot firearms should be allowed to vote.

I especially think people, regardless of how much money they have have, shouldn't be allowed to tell others whether they can vote or not, b/c based on that idea alone Musk would flunk the first criteria and face the wrath of those in the second category.

Our Founding Fathers were geniuses, Musk isn't on many fronts.

I think people worry too much about what Elon Musk says . He's a rich guy with some really cool ideas but that's about it for me .

I agree with AK.

It was probably a passing comment, taken out of context if it was uttered at all.

"Elon Musk supports eliminating voting rights for people without children." Total bullshit, and the haters know it. They just bent and twisted what he said into something to fit their agenda. Show me his tweet where he said exactly that. Roll Eyes

Musk is prone to shoving his foot in his mouth with odd comment; I'm sure part of it these days, is a press/media eager to 'catch him' or, warp a statement.

I’ve a novel idea- if you’re not a citizen, you don’t vote. You must provide ID that shows you are an actual citizen. To be a citizen, you must have entered the country through an official port of entry. You must do more than sneak in, or be ushered in, apply for citizenship, swear an oath to the United States of America upon acceptance. Anyone else has ZERO rights to vote. That includes anyone issued an “ID” from a leftist turd hole of a state seeking to prop up illegal votes. No mail in fraud ballots unless you are active military or are otherwise physically unable to appear at a polling location. Did I mention valid ID for each and every vote?

Letting only net taxpayers, who are not employed by the government, a government-supported NGO, or by a company which derives a substantial portion/the majority of its gross revenue from government contracts, who also have children, would be an interesting way to analyze demographics.

I could get on board with this. While we are at it, an analysis of places with very high percentages of population who are renters ( NY, SF for example) and see how renters vote on issues that directly affect property owners. Should work out well.

Even smart people say/type dumb things. Totally against the founding father's intent to deny voting rights to people without children. Frankly, there is a much better argument of going back to only property owners being able to vote as our property taxes fund schools and local government.

As long as we're on the tangent of people without kids and property taxes. People without kids are already getting screwed by the property taxes to subsidize other people's kids getting indoctrinated with leftist politics at public schools. If it weren't for the leftist politics, there is a good argument for the general interest of society in educating the next generation. However, there is way more in the budget than reading, writing, and arithmetic such as people without kids are being forced to pay to entertain other people's chitlins (e.g. my school district had a bond to put astroturf in 5 football stadiums) which is BS.

I think people with out kids should not have to pay school taxes. I also think parents who home school or pay for private school should also not pay school taxes.
At the same time they would have no say or vote in the way the school system uses the taxes they collect.

I grew up in a town with a very high school budget. It made up a significant part of the property tax bill. I knew senior citizens who could not retire because of this.
They for the most part would have to sell the house they had been in for decades and move to be able to afford to retire.

In any case, none of these will happen in our lifetimes if ever.

They may make for an interesting discussion with a wide range of opinions but that's about all.
