Strange Conversation

AirpusherStrange Conversation
Yesterday I had a conversation with a fellow that started with him asking if I thought the earth revolved around the sun. When I answered in the affirmative, he proceeded to explain to me that the earth is the center of the universe and everything revolved around it. He had several theories that were supported by "experts" I have never heard of. Up until this point, I had thought him to be a rational human being. You never know what is going on in someone else's mind.

RHINOWSOIn general, I don't argue with idiots, or speak with them more than required.

arfmelSadly, there are probably thousands who follow his scientific twatter feed, and take it as gospel.

YooperSigsNo stranger than the dude I ran across on patrol one night. He was changing a perfectly serviceable, fully inflated tire with the spare tire, which was identical to the one he was taking off the car.
He told me that the spare tire was "better".
I did not argue.

Maybe he's a time traveller... from the past.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

flashguyAs long as he believes that the rest of the Solar System (and the rest of the Universe) revolves around the Sun, his opinion is not without standing. Any point in the Universe can be considered the "center" as long as all other motions are maintained relative to it.
One can consider oneself the center of the Earth's surface, too, because it all stretches equally away from where one is.
It's all a matter of perspective.
