I’m about to dump Netflix, cycle renews on the 20th. It’s back to school & we have enough without. I know my leaving isn’t even a drop in the bucket, but I don’t care for who they associate with.

When you dump them, they give you access for the remainder of the month.
They posted a growth for Q2 with an additional 10 million subscribers as late as august. I hope they experience a real die off and get the shit kicked out of their stocks.

That's normal. OAN did the same when I cancelled them (again) a couple days ago.

Don't hold your breath. With people remaining in house arrest due to the Wu Flu panic, I suspect all streaming services are experiencing a windfall.

I cancelled my Netflix a few months ago and don't miss it. Honestly, does anyone really miss TV in general? It has been enjoyable getting outside more.

Different strokes and all. We would. My wife and I enjoy sitting down to some video entertainment in the evening.

What I do miss is news. I wish there was a way to subscribe to Fox News w/o a ±$50/mo. package Frown

ensigmatic,

My wife and I are working through the DVD's for Stargate SG-1. We are nearing the end of the show. We had planned on watching Atlantis, its what we do a few evenings a week. But we do not have the DVD's for the series.
Her and the girls love a few kids shows on Netflix and while She was not happy* about the netflix thing, once I told her "Hulu has Atlantis" . . that made everything right in the world.

*she was supportive of me canceling it, and my "I am a dad with daughters, it ends here" stance. She just missed some of the content she and the girls did like.

I get the enjoying TV shows at night.

Like redstone I've been going through old movies or TV shows that I own when I get that itch. You can probably find good deals at second hand stores right now with all the spring cleaning people did during quarantine. Old seasons of 24, the Unit, White Collar, Burn Notice, Human Target, etc. With what someone pays for a month of Netflix they could probably get a few seasons that would last them a few months.

UV Spider is a site that sells digital copies of movies that you redeem on Vudu. Some are expensive, but if you go to search and hit enter they come up with .99 cent movies. Most are crap, but you can find a few and the prices go up as you scroll through the pages.

There are a lot of good Netflix and cable alternatives.

Sling has $30 packages with Fox News, but you get CNN too.

I downloaded the Newsmax app on my Firefox streaming device and watch it, better than Fox, and you don't have to have a subscription.

Don't care about that, but I'm not paying $30/mo. just to get Fox News.

We'll give it a try, too. Thanks, HRK.

ETA: Things to like: A schedule. Ability to watch past episodes. Cool. Unfortunately, what passes for "news" on NewsMax appears to be more heavily-biased political coverage than actual, you know, news.

"Cuties", huh? Why didn't they call it "Strip Club" or "Lap Dance for Daddy"?

Coming right at YOU, Netflix subscribers! September 9th. Make it a family event.

The backlash has started.

quote:
Controversial French film “Cuties” — about a young Senegalese girl in Paris who joins a “free-spirited dance clique” to escape family dysfunction — has spawned a new backlash against Netflix by critics who allege it goes over the line in portraying children in a sexualized manner.

The hashtag “#CancelNetflix” was the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter in the U.S. Thursday, after “Cuties” premiered Sept. 9 on Netflix.

A petition on Change.org calling on Netflix customers to cancel their subscriptions over “Cuties” and other content on the streaming service “that exploits children and creates a disturbing vibe,” currently has nearly 600,000 signers.

Netflix did not respond to a request for comment.

Tim Pool on this idiotic film, which seems only Netflix would touch, ethusiastically.

I tend to leave it on mute during the day as background in the office, the evening show I don't really watch. most everything on TV is political with the election coming up.

Try OAN as well, should be an app for that,

At least it's not FOX/CNN/MSNBC.

Just dropped OAN again. They're back to preempting news for live Trump appearances. Like Trump. Love the rallies. But can only watch the same remarks delivered so many times before it becomes wearing. And we were paying for news.

I guess we'll do without. That's ok, too, I suppose.

Tucker Carlson had a segment on his show tonight covering this abomination.

He had Tammy Bruce on to get her thoughts on this film and she literally seemed challenged to get words out to describe her abject horror at the place our society has arrived.

The video clips shown are appalling.

Apparently the collective assholes known as the former prince harry and his washed up wife are also heavily invested in the kiddie simulated porn production studios.

I looked for video of the segment to post but it is apparently too soon to have been put on the inter-webs.

I made the mistake of scrolling thru Twitter and saw part of the trailer for Netflix's "Cuties." Had to stop it. Watching 11 year old girls touch themselves for the obvious viewing pleasure of perverted men is disgusting. And Netflix's explanation that this is a movie about the sexual objectification of children through the portrayal of children sexually objectified is pure evil. Even IMDB had a note that this movie had scenes in that that could be legally characterized as child pornography.

I'm not a huge South Park fan, but they get a lot right when they portrayed men judging a kiddie beauty pageant. No doubt more than a few male Netflix execs previewed "Cuties" like this. Maybe the FBI ought to check out their personal computers.

These pigs are doing nothing less than trying to mainstream pedophilia.

As best as I can ascertain, from the trailer for this film, and from the comments about it, the idea of the film maker is the empowerment young girls. Empowering them, though, in a base and perverted way; namely, using their sexuality to attain elevated position in the social order.

For example, the scene which Jericho Green refers to (his video is posted on page 4 of this thread) regarding the girls being watched and then approached by older boys- 14 years of age versus the 11 years of the girls. As we all know, at that age, that three year span represents a magnitude of order, especially for females. Dance around in skimpy outfits, writhe around like horny prostitutes and you can have boys (or men) who would otherwise regard you as children.

At the core of this attempt for elevated social position and for attaining a degree of dominance over the male of the species, is a fear of inadequacy, and a feeling of impotence on the part of- not the eleven year old girls- but of the film maker, the writer(s) and the producer of this softcore child pornography. This seems quite clear to me, and it fits perfectly into the overwhelming campaign over the past decade of the entertainment industry and the corporate media to drive down our throats the message that females are not the equal to males, but are actually superioir to males, and that it is patently unfair that females have not been recognized for this superiority- a superiority which those hammering this message home really don't believe. They really don't believe it, but they have momentum via the sympathy towards women these days, and from the idea that males are inherently evil trash.
That's the reason they are trying to turn these young girls into fledgling gold diggers. Those responsible for this film are telegraphing a message to all females, not just juveniles, and that message is that you can and should use your sexual attractiveness to attain power, position, money and security.

Bottom line- it's a power grab of sorts, from people who want to convince us of something they themselves don't believe is true, but want to be true, and since everyone is bowing to this nonsense and fearful of pushing back against it, now is their time to advance their perverted cause.
