Graduated a division yesterday and I have such little stress today knowing I don’t have to go back to work for 9.5 more days. Part of me wants to pick up another division in a week but schedule dictates we’ll pick up at the end of May. 12-16 hour work days have take a toll over the past 6+ months. Gonna go shoot, reload, and work out. All “a lot”. But today, a fine meal for lunch we just ate. And watch tv tonight while reading up on 9mm loads. I hate sounding like a “lil bitch”, but the older I get, the more I realize the importance of getting time off. 17 years of 12+ hour days is catching up. Got a reservation for 4 days at a state park in northern Wisconsin next weekend, looking forward to it.This message has been edited. Last edited by: OttoSig, Nine years to retirement! You can't get time back, use it wisely, and with your family is smart. Enjoy your 9.5 days!

Sounds like some Jelly and Bella time and the hammock. Enjoy J. Preparing young men for war is not something to take lightly. You have my respect and thanks. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

ORC, thank you for the kind words. I’m lucky if I can prepare these kids to put on the uniform correct and shut up for two minutes straight. It’s a different group of kids these days for sure. The kept count, we beat em 56 times this last division. And those were all full cards of workouts, 45 minutes each time. But our guys excelled at the push ups and pull ups competition Nine years to retirement! Just waiting!

Thanks for all you do.. I wanted to be a Drill SGT most of my career both in the 90s and when I went back in 2009. After going back to boot camp for the 2nd time in the fall of 2010... NOPE... Of course I was 36 and and after seeing those clowns.. NO WAY.. I have a hard time being an instructor... I enjoy it when I have a class of motivated individuals.. But things have definitely changed. As I have gotten older, I definitely value my down time more.. So, that is not sounding bitchy. (If I don't I will thrash the ones who are jerk offs)

Enjoy your time off. You've definitely earned it. I know partly how you feel. I've been working 50-65 hour weeks almost every week since January, and it really wears on you. Luckily I only have a few more of those to go, as I have 5 days off coming in a couple weeks, plus in mid-June I'll be back to 40 hours most weeks.

I remember those kind of hours. I do not envy you.

Been putting in 60+ hour weeks myself, including starting 6AM yesterday and finishing at 1am today at least I ran home for a small nap in-between waiting on vendors. I am taking off 2.5 weeks very soon and am looking forward to it very much! Enjoy your time off! Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

This ain't that! You've more than earned some time off with your family. Enjoy it! Work will keep. And when we're gone, it'll go on just fine without us, just like it did before we got here. It's good to be invested and proud of your job...but it's also good to spend time with those who will be around long after it's over. April was a shit show for me. A ton of extra training and overtime details. Tomorrow is graduation for the local college which has been the source of a lot of it, and the extra training is over for the year, too. Just have a couple of big events to cover between now and July 4, but overall I'm hoping to be home a lot more for the next couple of months...and then vacation after that! ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Speaking from experience unless you are working for yourself you will end up regretting giving away so much of your life.

Oh I put a stop to that. I will have pretty reasonable hours until retirement. But I agree, sooner or later you will regret it regardless if it was by necessity or choice. I hope you get some well earned relaxation Otto!

I got assigned the following shift one time during a manpower shortage for my skilled position. 5-8s, 2-12s 5-8s 2-12s 5-8s then 2 days off. So 19 day on for 2 off. Not awful... it was temporary. Only issue is neither of the other employees worked their share so I got called in often to cover. Ended up working 57 days straight. Again not awful... I got a "Team Player of the Quarter" award, my own parking place at the entrance a golf shirt and a Coat with company Logo, my name and Team Player of the Quarter embroidered on it. But it paid off big time a few years later. Years later my company closed, and a manager who had worked with me those years before and had moved to another company remembered me and called to say If I need a job it is mine... just show up. I worked Friday at the old job and Monday at the new one. They paid me 6 figures with flexible hours for 12 years until I retired in 2015 at 60. The guys who had not stepped up when the company needed them, and bitched about the schedule, were not offered a job with the new company. Don't burn your bridges... Update: Been busy on the reloading front. Got 10k small pistol primers in and 3k 9mm bullets so making homes for them. Also got some coated 44 mag from Missouri bullet company. Got about 750 cases ready to go today. Nine years to retirement! Just waiting!

I’ve got two Dillon’s but I still like a hands on primer loading and powder loading. Helps that I can do this on the couch while hanging out with the family. And get a little forearm workout Nine years to retirement! Just waiting!

I will say, from the bottom of my heart, bless you and thank you for the work that you do for this country and, more importantly, for the people you help to get ready for service to this country. As the guy who pays your salary: take the time off.
