Every year this crap is cycled around. We have folks who are convinced their state is at or near the best. Then someone compares and it comes out that things aren't so good. All it would take is someone with a different mindset to change their criteria and a bunch of states would swap places.

I've got to admit, way too much influence is exerted by a few large cities. They all seem to vote communist (GDC).

Is it still too early to start shooting the bastards?

Texas isn't even close to the top.

Utah is about as good as it gets. All we're missing is Constitutional carry.

I can carry practically anywhere. Hospitals, schools (all schools, the University and my daughter's kindergarten alike), churches, bars...you name it.

All I can say about the great state of Texas is that I am proud to be here and despite whatever some list says we are doing just fine on guns.

Mississippi's is really good. I had a stamp and could carry Any where sign or no sign except a sitting judges court room.

In NC .... We're castrated in most all cases. Gotta have a chc (ccw) to have it loaded in a vehicle. Signs everywhere.

I thought it's $25 for 5 years now that they send a laminated card out?

I renewed my about two years ago, the new Bucks County sheriff changed it where you needed to pick up your license instead of mailing it to you and made it difficult unless you went to Doylestown to get it instead of the local lower Bucks county office, made it where a sheriffs deputy had to be the one to hand it to you Roll Eyes

Open carry without a license is legal everywhere except in cities of the first class (million plus residents, so basically just Philly) and that's a state law, not local.

But other than that PA is definitely on the 2A friendly side.

Texas and Florida can feel all warm and fuzzy about their gun laws, but until they recognize CCW holders from every other state, they suck.

They won't get very high up the list until they realize how outsiders are effected.

I did solve this for myself by getting a Florida license, but then it came time to renew, and it's enough of a PIA (and insult) that I decided that there is nothing in Florida that I need that bad anyway. Alabama is plenty good enough for me.

Texas will be a problem as we have family there. I hope that someone in Texas is working on reciprocity, especially since Wisconsin recognizes both Texas and Florida (among many others). How hard is it to not be an asshole?

I see you are in Wisconsin. Florida has reciprocity with 38 states, Wisconsin is not one of them. According to USCCA, Wisconsin has reciprocity with 39 states, Florida is not one of them. Florida's policy is that if another state's background and training requirements meet Florida's, and the two states agree to a reciprocity, you get reciprocity. I do not know why Florida and Wisconsin do not have an agreement. Perhaps there are assholes in both states?

Surprised no one has mentioned Arizona yet. It usually was a race between Arizona, Wyoming and Alaska over who could get the lowest grade from the Brady Campaign.

AZ has to be up there on any list.
Constitutional carry, open carry, shall issue CCW, NFA friendly, honors all permits from any state, automatic knives ok, private sales ok, internet ammo sales ok.
Checks all the boxes I need.

Did FL get rid of the “someone sees your concealed gun, you’re screwed” law?
TX doesn’t allow open carry w/o permit correct? That ISN’T “open carry” IMHO.

Yup. It's Arizona. According to Guns & Ammo's recent article:

https://www.gunsandammo.com/ed...or-gun-owners/369075

I would also give a lot of credit to the Arizona Citizens Defense League. They are top-notch, and keep members abreast of everything going on in the legislature. I urge Arizonans to be a member.

Can't believe how long it took to get Arizona in the mix. It has been in the top spot of every list for several years.

Alabama is solidly 2A. Residents can walk into the Sheriff's office to get a CC permit, and walk out 10 minutes later with the permit.

I still wonder why people are all like, “hurr durr, Texas has all the best gun laws”.

Quick way of letting me know they have zero idea of what they’re talking about.
You're correct that our LTC laws are middle of the pack, but where you're off the reservation is that Texas' use of force and deadly force laws are top tier.

Also, 800 new laws kicked in on 9/1/19 and several of them made LTC and self-defense better. Here is the thread I started on the new laws.

Although Texas has been only moderately gun-friendly in the past, it is slowly getting better. Most people have thought that Texas was very gun-friendly, but it has not always been so. When I first moved here (1980) neither open nor concealed carry were permitted. Now (with permits) both are possible, and there are some venues where a permit is not required.

There has to be more to it than this...FL recognizes an IN permit, and we have no training requirement at all, issue permits at the age of 18, and the lifetime permit has no expiration (why we even offer a 4-year, recently increased to 5-year, permit anymore makes no sense to me).
