She was a national treasure. Thankfully she left her voice behind for us to enjoy and remember.

Thanks Karen

If Cass Elliott had shared her ham sandwich with Karen Carpenter, they might buy the still be with us. (Sorry, had to do it.)

My favorite clips of her are the live shows in Australia in 1972. Extremely talented in a live setting.

And the whole concert:

I was too into metal to appreciate her when she first appeared, I do now She apparently sang quite softly and it has been said that the microphone or amplification loved her. It really is amazing how on she was. She would start a song with something that would challenge most singers and nail it. A truly angelic voice.

Her Beatles covers are some of my favorites.

Not to mention Cass Elliot did not die from choking on a ham sandwich. Urban myth. I did hear a Carepnter's song the other day and was reminded what a pure voice Karen Carpenter was blessed with.

Karen Carpenter had a mental illness. Mental illnesses are just as real as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, etc. The odds are that there are several people on this board that have been touched by mental illness, either in their lives or someone they love.

You wouldn't make fun of cancer or stroke, hopefully, so please use the same compassion for mental illness.

Thank God for recordings. I'd like to hear Bach play the clavichord or Beethoven improvise or Liszt perform but I can't... Frown

I assume you posted that while waiting for a tow truck.

I didn't care for the Carpenters back in the day because I was younger and into heavier rock and roll.
Today, I really appreciate how good her voice was.
It's a shame she left the world so young.

I can still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard she was gone. It hit me like a brick.

I like her voice, but I do not care for that genre of music.

She should've had a cookie or two.

I’ve often wondered what it would have been like if her and Elvis sung a duet.

Nope. Cheeseburgers.

I never cared for the Carpenters. But I did see a "I miss Tom Petty" bumper sticker the other day.
