Amazon orders 20,000 Mercedes vans for deliveries
Amazon is upping it's game in it's own delivery business, with Mercedes vans, nonetheless.

Had the same thing this weekend. Ordered Sunday AM and the delivery was slated for same day. About 5pm the knock and look out to see a young lady getting back into a car (as the passenger) and they were off for the next delivery.

Some of their delivers seem to happen with people in regular cars lately. I always had the best luck when UPS makes the deliveries. USPS sometimes shoves packages that don't really fit in my mailbox.

Wonder if this will effect UPS stock over the next year. They make a crap ton of deliveries for Amazon.

Probably to some extent, but their bread and butter is business deliveries. A driver I know says that the company would be just as happy only doing those. If you look at all the residential and extended delivery area surcharges, they're really trying to discourage it.

My son has done deliveries for them in Salt Lake City. They pay good money for a part time job. He raged at how organized they were.

Amazontown

You get yer goods and sundries from the Amazon General Store. Buy yer lumber from Amazon Lumber.

Hell, we even got an Amazon whore house.

Before you know it you'll be getting paid in Amacoins - like the old coal miners used to be paid in tokens that could only be redeemed at the company store.

It does look like a great opportunity. Flash-back 11 years to me coming back from a deployment without a civilian job, I'd have done it.

However...the other thread about how nobody wants to work applies... Eek

It's only a matter of time until Amazon runs afoul of antitrust laws (IMO, they're already knocking on the door) and Congress smacks them down.

For the time being, buy Amazon stock and sell UPS stock.

Ah, vertical integration like at the turn of the 19th century. Interesting they choose Benz over a domestic. Are the vans at least made in the U.S. too?

Their spoke and hub logistics scheme will save them some money on the local deliveries. UPS, FEDEX, the other big haulers will still haul to the Amazon hubs.

Wonder when Amazon will spin off their IT business, which is very profitable. There is a possible Anti-trust issue waiting. Retail and IT are not even remotely related businesses, for one. Their IT business gives their retail business a huge advantage over retail only businesses. They can lose money on the retail side and still laugh all the way to the bank.

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

------

Atlanta is the host city for the Sprinter plant. Sprinters fall under the chicken tax from way back.
The plant should be up and running soon.

At the moment the vans are built in stutgart(?) dis-aseembled put in two containers, shipped and then re-aseembled in atlanta. to avoid a 25% tax on lite commercial trucks.

Fun!
