I wouldn't put E rated tires on a wrangler. period. Not need, no upside and lots of downsides. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

So besides a stiffer ride, what are the other downsides? ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

I have not yet begun to procrastinate |
Not only a lot of extra weight, lot of un-sprung weight...much more than you had before on your Wrangler. Ever run over a couple of ripples in the pavement in a turn and feel your tires bounce a bit? That is going to feel several times stronger. It's your cash so spend as you like but I will never again put those on a vehicle that doesn't call for them. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

When I went from C to E rating I kept my overall circumference at about +3/4" extra compared to the OEM Dueller. I really believe the ride was relatively unaffected, although my JK rode like a rocking horse and handled like a lawn tractor both before and after the change. Running at 35# or so the handling was as good as to be expected with 'adequate ride'. Pumping to 60# was not any advantage. The biggest change I saw in those 18" OEM rims, was the install of 'biggest tire that would fit' without lift/spacers/new rims, was a loss of about 1.5 mpg and a general decrease in 500 rpm at most any cruising speed (A/T 3.73). I live rurally and have the slight rises & dips in the county roads pretty well figured for where the shift points were. The even slight change in larger tire produced a subtle shift in fuel mileage. That was the old 3.8 V6; I don't know what my newer 3.6 +85hp motor would do. I never could discern the 'rougher ride' many spoke about. Having at that time just stepped out of 90000 miles in a 3/4 4x4 pick up, the ride quality of the JK seemed more satisfying. As a DD I made many 3 & 4000 mile road trips, with no real tire stiffness issues to report. Do consider upgraded shocks when your OEMs beging to flag. **************~~~~~~~~~~ "I've been on this rock too long to bother with these liars any more." ~SIGforum advisor~ "When the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change, then change will come."~~sigmonkey

There are some great Upsides.. An E rated tire has a stiffer sidewall that is great when you are off road. I ran E rated on my half ton Dodge pickup and they were great. I ran them at 50 PSI.. and they wore very well. _______________________________ 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but > because he loves what is behind him.' G. Ended up moving forward with the Duratracs. Below are the before and after pics. Drove the Jeep around today for quite a bit with the new wheels and tires ("E" rated) and have no complaints at all so far. Quite the contrary, I love them. I haven't noticed any difference in ride quality yet, but I've only been driving on them for one day so I'll allow that the jury may still be out on that. ETA: I'm running the tire pressure between 40-45 psi. Before: After: This message has been edited. I can't see the pictures on this connection, but congrats on the DuraTracs. I think you will be happy, those are my favorite tires of all time and I've tried a lot of them. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Do you know what kind of average MPG you were getting before? Will be interested in how much of a hit you take with the added weight and increased rolling resistance of the new tires. I was getting something like 17 mpg combined highway and city driving. Strictly highway was around 20 mpg. I'll be curious myself to see how that changes. I haven't noticed any difference in acceleration or cruising. In fact, so far I really like the feel of the jeep with the new tires. My wife likes the new feel as well. But maybe that's just the feel of brand new rubber. At 70 mph, the speedometer is off by about 1 to 2 mph, it reading less than the actual speed. Not all that bad. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

The Rotopax cans are great, though I can't say that I've ever actually needed it in any off-roading situation or otherwise. I recycle the gas every month or two. Just recently though the pack mount lock failed on me. I can't unlock the darn thing to get the Rotopax off. Super annoying. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan
