konata88coffee / caffeine headaches
While I was working, I used to drink coffee made with the technivorm using high altitude, organic coffee beans. Never had headaches, even after stopping to drink.
I've picked up coffee drinking again but have been using the nespresso with pods from Kimbo; I find these tastier than other alternatives from nespresso (which are also more costly) and peets (and others).
However, I noticed I started to get headaches, especially when I stop for a few days.
I don't think it's the caffeine, or at least not by itself since I don't get the headaches via the technivorm, even drinking multiple cups per day.
I don't think the nespresso capsules are high altitude or organic. That may be the cause.
Any other thoughts on headache cause between technivorm vs nespresso? I may go back to technivorm unless i can find nesspresso capsules that are organic and high altitude (per the interwebz).

WaterburyBobWhat material are the pods made of?
Could be something from the pods leaching into the coffee.

Pipe SmokerThe pods are anodized aluminum – totally inert. And hermetically sealed – the coffee keeps good for long.
I drink three cups of Nespresso daily. Two “Ristretto”, and one “Columbia Master Origins”. No headaches.
No experience with stopping, though.

ruger357Caffeine is a powerful stimulant. When I was younger if I drank half a cup of coffee I would get a migraine. I quit for years. Just last year I started back but I only have one cup of caffeinated and then I switch to decaf. So far so good minus a headache or two but I have other triggers that affect me like the weather.

sig2392I drink 2 to 4 Nespressos a day.
Even when I skip I do not get headaches.
I do feel less energetic without caffeine.

sourdough44Not that it’s always a thing, but make sure you are properly hydrated. There is such a thing as a dehydration headache.

I drink 2 or 3 starbucks caramel expressos a day, every day. No related effects that i’m aware.
Not much of a choice either. Nespresso is 3 blocks away but i’m fine with the Starbucks capsules.
If/when i wake up with a headache, i go straight to a bottle of water and drink until it goes away. Works like a charm.

tigereye313It's astonishing how many people are chronically dehydrated. Almost every time I get a headache it is because I hadn't had enough water.
I do drink a LOT of coffee, and yeah, the few times I didn't have any I did end up with a headache. I would have to taper my consumption if I ever wanted to quit.

CassandraDear Konata. Every morning I have two cups of coffee with Bailey's Irish Cream. I am cutting down to one cup a day. Should I double the Bailey's in the remaining cup to prevent headaches? (wink)

egregoreAre you sure caffeine
intake and not
withdrawal is causing the headaches? Caffeine is a headache
remedy. Some OTC headache pills like Excedrin have a little bit of caffeine in them. If it does give you headaches, why not stop?

konata88I'm not sure the caffeine is the problem since I'm okay with the coffee I buy and brew through the technivorm. Or perhaps the nespresso pods just have considerably different amounts of caffeine but I doubt it, especially since I drank multiple large cups of the technivorm coffee per day.
The impression I'm getting is that it's high altitude, organic (beans I buy for the technivorm vs not (nespresso pods). Ironically (but not fully tested), I think the headaches are worse when I drink instant decaf coffee (nestle gold).
I'll try drinking more water, especially if I'm stopping. I think the transition from coffee w/ baileys to just baileys is a good thing.

The caffeine headaches are dilation of the blood vessels when stopping causing a headache. Taking coffee/caffeine in this case provides headache relief by constricting the blood vessels. Same headaches as when starting vasodilators for blood pressure.
Coffee is supposed to have some benefits, mild stimulant (wake up), mental acuity, laxative (issues with constipation as I get older), etc.
I think I'm going to go back to beans through the technivorm and test that for headaches.
