My wife and I inherited her mothers house in KC. I posted a while back about installing security cameras because we were having troublesome renters. Thanks for everyone's responses to that. We went with a Reolink system, but I digress... We booted the renters and have been doing repairs over the summer. We live in Utah so it's a bit of a drive out there and we did it in 3 - 2 week stays over about 3 months. As we were doing repairs we would chat with neighbors to get to know them. They seemed grateful that we booted the tenants and making repairs. The neighborhood is really close to Worlds of Fun amusement park for you KC folks. About halfway through our last trip we needed two pieces of sheetrock and only had a car. Only choice, go rent a pickup from Home Depot for a few hours. When we were going to our car to get the sheetrock a neighbor inquired about what we were doing and when we said going to rent a pickup. The guy put his hand up and said stop, we've got this. He called his buddy (a sheetrocker) to give us a hand. The guy drops everything on a moments notice, drives to Home Depot to get the drywall and delivers it to our house. OK, that's mighty neighborly, but then helps me cut, install, and tape. I offered $200 but he refused, just helpin' where I can. On our last day, the wife and I are exhausted after 10 10-hour days. We're loading our tools into the car and the neighbor down the street comes up and invites two strange people with Utah tags on their car down to street BBQ in his back yard. Pretty awesome food and awesome neighbors! You folks do know your BBQ. Oh, BTW, many, many, many houses in that neighborhood are flying the flag and have Trump signs in their yards. I saw exactly one Harris/Walz sign. MAGA, that's a label that I proudly wear. That is all.

That’s awesome! Good people. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Sounds like a nice neighborhood! No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

People and things like this aren't reported nearly enough. There are still some outstanding people in this country but the bad ones get the most publicity. Thanks for your post. "Even if the world were perfect it wouldn't be." ... Yogi Berra

Agreed my friend. You put up a Trump sign in my neighborhood and it would be vandalized. This trip was so refreshing (and tiring ![]()

Good people are where you find them… or they find you as seems to be the case here. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Agreed, the wife and I had zero time to make friends. Too much to do and dead ass tired. They found us and helped because we needed it. I don't think it's just KC, but dang every time we go there we are treated well. Oh, FYI, I was reminded about the Chiefs multiple times per day ![]() ![]()

MO or KS? My daughter has a house south of KC MO in the Waldo area, just east of Wornall Road. Less than a mile west of her is State Line Road.

KC BBQ is the shizzle Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed. Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists. Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

I just spent 10 days in Oklahoma and heartland people are the best! Not surprised with what you experienced. JP

This x100! The dirtbags get the publicity but the day to day good folks don’t. Thank you for the great report! And yeah, that Chiefs fever is REALLY noticeable. I was driving cross country and went into a Wallyworld in KC. The whole store was red and gold! ![]() -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

I swear I had something for this |
It's pretty common North of the River and South of 75th Street or so. It does change the closer you get to the center of the city, but for the most part we're still a typical Midwestern city.

When you say North, South, East, or West in that neck of the woods I am lost. My wife says go North? WTF babe, show me a mountain. Our house is at 48th and whatever??? You folks are tops IMHO.

The biggest divider in the city is the Missouri River. So if anyone around here says they're from "up north" or a "northlander," then we live north of the Missouri River and Downtown.

Sounds like some nice folks from Utah and some nice folks from KC met each other. Sadly KC KS votes blue.

Jackson County votes blue. Clay and Platte do not.
