Transporting rifles in Okla. via auto - a question Login/Join

I'm planning to stay with my sister in Oklahoma soon to help take care of my dad.

I'd like to take some rifles and pistols with me. As for the rifles, what is the law on transporting an AR and AR pistol with a pistol brace. I looked at the laws a few years ago and will again, but thought some of you in OK could help me out. I seem to recall that you had to have the ammo/mags separate from the rifle. Like in the trunk (or truck bed in my case), not just front seat vs back seat.

I've always just kept my pistols either in a waist band holster, in the center console safe, or both when visiting in the past.

I remember the OK laws being somewhat confusing to me the last time I read them, so any help is appreciated. Actually, it may have been the knife laws that were confusing. I couldn't determine if my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 was legal or not.

If I leave ammo and mags here in TX and just put the rifles in the back seat area in my truck, is that legal? I can always get mags and ammo on another trip up there.

Thanks in advance!!

https://handgunlaw.us/

I would go to handgunlaw.us & look at any states you may be in. It should be fairly simple.

Can't quote exact laws but the last time I was pulled over in Oklahoma(last year) visiting from Texas I handed the Trooper my TX CHL.

He asked me if I was carrying, I said one in my pocket, one in the console, and a rifle under the back seat. He said OK and proceeded to write me a warning for speeding.

I grew up there and the rule used to be not loaded with no ammo within easy access. But, with the transition to constitutional carry I imagine its more laxed now, especially if you have a CHL.

I teach LE classes on it in OK. I’ll try to get a proper response to you tomorrow, barring catastrophe.

Same. Although I haven’t been pulled over there yet. We have 3 offices up there so I have to visit occasionally. One concealed on hip with spare mag on hip and I usually take my braced Scorpion in a bag with a stack of magazines.

OK is usually cool if you have a CHL but as was mentioned above, read up. I did before I went last time, reciprocal for TX.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

It's legal to carry a rifle or a pistol loaded or unloaded on your person. If it's open carried, it must be by a holster, scabbard or sling. It was supposed to be the same for transportation, but something got missed in the law that was passed in November. Technically, you still can't have a chamber loaded long gun transported in a vehicle. At least it wasn't last time I checked with OK2A about it a few months ago.

Knives are not a problem even automatics.

Here are some sources for info:

Almost all of the firearms and weapons stuff is between 1272-1290.

Here is the law book from OSBI. https://osbi.ok.gov/sites/g/fi...72019_with_COVER.pdf
