ATF proposing to ban/restrict pistol “braces.” Very short comment period: Please get involved.
Sig2340 I agree. But our 'expert' YOuTube Constitutional Lawyers/gunnuts need to get the clicks for the likes so they can get money for their content. What is going to get the clicks: "ATF sez you a felon if you don't surrender yer gunz" or "ATF makes change to brace rules. Expect legal challenges filed next week"?
It is worth it's own separate thread, but a couple of YouTubers I follow have been complaining that the policy is changed on how they get paid. It is no longer just did someone watch your video or subscribe to your channel, but now tied to likes and comments too.
But watching a lot of gun owners reaction to this ruling reminds me of the security guard in Austin Powers:
Lord, your ocean is so very large and my divos are so very f****d-up Dirt Sailors Unite!

So I've read in a couple of reports that this "required registration" is being called tax-free. So no $200 for a SBR tax stamp?
This is funny and appropriate. Can't remember how to properly post a YouTube video. Just a link.
I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

So as of today, still legal to buy and/or sell?
Yup till it hits the Federal Register its just a bunch of words... After that we have a transition period of 120 days and then to buy and sell with a registered one will be the normal NFA rules of another $200 paid by someone.
“So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”
The rule does not “ban” pistol braces. Braces are still allowed. A braced Glock 17 for example.
You aren’t a felon because a final rule is issued. There is the whole indictment, trial, conviction thing that happens first.
Then there is the idea the “amnesty registration” is a HUGE entrapment scheme.
How the MENSA members making these videos have any idea what the Final Rule actually says in context, after just 23 hours is beyond me.
I am a regulatory analyst. Reading and interpreting federal regulations is how I make my living. I would never tell a client what a major rulemaking like this means, especially in light of the Bruen decision, after such a short period.
I call on members to refrain from posting these idiotic videos. If we can’t police ourselves, I hope El Jefe sees my comment and institutes restrictions on linked videos with sensationalist titles.
Unless they make some last changes (which seems unlikely), isn’t this exactly what gets published in the Federal Register?
I agree there is a lot of sensational stuff, a lot of it overblown and incorrect, but it seems to me that the wording and context of the rule is available.

I ask because I have a pinned and welded M-4 length AR that currently sports the Shockwave it had on with a shorter barrel.
Braces aren’t prohibited. If you have one on a gun that doesn’t meet the criteria for a SBR (barrel less than 16” and/or OAL less than 26”) this doesn’t affect you.

Gentlemen - just a gentle reminder-
Granted that this is MY OPINION -
Given that the WORLD WIDE WEB is open to the WHOLE WORLD it would seem to be wise in this case to
NOT MAKE STATEMENTS like “I put one of these on my X brand gun….”
It would seem wiser to make the discussion all academic. As in “A friend of mine had one, before he lost it in that terrible boating accident, so, if he still had it what should he do, theoretically speaking?”
There is no positive reason to tell the world what you have in your collection - be it sea shells, marbles or anything else.

Funny thing is I hate those videos too but not for the reasons you state. I agree with the above, this is the final ruling. It will be published word for 293 page word and go into effect 120 days after that publishing.
Those headlines seem extreme because I think the6 are all true. You are the one who is making the untrue statements. After 120 days you will be a criminal. Sure you have to go through the arrest and trial but there is no reason to think that won’t/couldn’t happen.
If your whole argument is that you aren’t a felon because you haven’t been convicted yet then more power to you but you will lose the trial. It’s pretty clear cut without judicial intervention this rule can put law abiding citizens in jail for something that has been legal for a decade.
Today the ATF made millions of Americans felons and said no to braces. Well you are correct, not today. But in about 3 months they could bang on your door. So while you are technically correct this is a difference without distinction (from the other thread). Hyperbole? Not as much as you seem to think it is.
Not a felon today true. But roughly 120 days from now? You just might be. So you would be ok with that headline after conviction then.
I hate click bait but this ain’t that imo

^^^Pretty sure it 'goes into effect' the day it's published. After 120 days, the grace/amnesty period expires, then it's enforced.

I thought that was obvious from my post but yes. 120 days from publishing you could get arrested. That’s no joke, that isn’t hyperbole.

Man, you so hit the nail on the head. Everything on the YouTube is about money. Some just disguise it better than others.
People gravitate to what they want to believe and hear. And their more accepting of the sensational thread titles and images of someone looking like the poster from “Home Alone” with their hands on their cheeks. It is all show. Then you get the defenders-
“Well, doesn’t mean they are wrong”. If they deal is unethical practices like click bait titles, what else will they do in the pursuit of money?
But, they do business in this fashion because it works. And they profit. Most of it is sensational garbage.

You confirm what I said as true, but you claim I am making untrue statements.
Nothing of what I said was incorrect, much less untrue.

Being a felon in 120 days won't be happening. The GOA has already stated they'll be filing a lawsuit and a TRO will undoubtedly be issued pushing the whole thing way, way out. Possibly until SCOTUS gets the case.

Oh for fucks sake. I know that, you know that, everyone on this forum probably knows that.
I suspect this will never pass legal muster.
I was responding to sig2340 who thinks those videos are out of line, over the top. I don’t agree. This final ruling when it goes into effect and the amnesty period is over, without any judicial intervention will do absolutely everything those videos are claiming. That is my point. Yes, the trial would happen first but if you got arrested and were sitting in jail awaiting trial that is a distinction you might not think is all that important.
Those headlines aren’t 100% accurate as to the letter of the law. They are absolutely spot on with the intent of the law.
