Congrats on the new ears. And on the eyeglasses I would prefer to look like nerd than to be unable to see. Both my wife (8 1/2yrs Army) and myself(9 1/2 yrs Army) have been very happy with the care from the VA clinic, Baton Rouge,La and the New (5yrs old) VA hospital in New Orleans, La. Found problems that we did not know about. Over the years have heard several horror stories about the care from the VA but have had nothing but positive care and help from friendly and professional people. ................................................... drill sgt.

10% for tinnitus, and back when I made the claim 5ey said my hearing was military related but wasn’t bad enough for hearing aids yet. We shall see.

Being around cannons and small arms has left me with the “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” of freedom ringing in my ears

I have VA hearing aids and VA glasses and I don't even have a primary care Dr. Never seen any Doctors other than those two. I also have the 10% Tinnitus and 0% Bilateral Hearing Loss.

Be careful where you set them down. A friend put his on the nightstand and the dog ate them. His homeowners would not cover them and he use to be an attorney for the company.

My dad lost much of his hearing in WWII. In the mid 50's, he had experimental surgery and got most of it back. We drove to the train station to drive him home. He kept demanding my mom tell him what she had done to the car in the few days he was gone. He said the engine was making horrible noises and she told him it had always sounded that way. My brother and I were under strict orders, no loud noises around him.

VA Approved me for an outside audiologist back in May and they approved hearing aids through the audiologist in Sept. This is for tinnitus and hearing loss from 20 years of working around jets on the flight line and flight deck.

Got me some fancy ReSound LiNX Quattro. They are very good at masking the tinnitus and improving my hearing. Rechargeable and bluetooth to my phone with a custom program that the audiologist and I set up together.

I should have done this 10yrs ago.

This comment applies to a lot of new hearing aid users. Definitely applied to me.

The VA has given me two sets of hearing aids, the second a few years after the first because they said they were "better."

As for "should have done that 10 years ago" I fall into that category.

I remember when I got my first set and came home. I could hear EVERYTHING!

Then I went in to use the toilet, I flushed and it sounded like Niagara Falls!

Scared the devil out of me till I realized what it was.

Big Grin

I've had to start aiming for the side of the bowl, the noise from hitting the water is deafening! And with my pitiful stream, that's saying something!

This morning I confirmed my suspicion that the aids will have to come out while using the tractor. Cans over the aids don't block the noise enough. The aids are tuned to boost high frequencies and the hydro whine is what I'm trying to block with the cans.

I suspect the same will be true of riding the motorcycle. Aids will have to come out and the ear plugs go in.

If I’m doing any type of Work that is noisy, I wear hearing protection. Also, if I’m doing something that will make me sweat, my hearing aids are left in the house.

I pick my first set of hearing aids from the VA on November 9th.

I don’t know that the VA provided glasses and plan on investigating this further.

I got a Bluetooth dongle from Amazon and hooked it to my smart TV.

Took bit of fiddling to get it paired (had to reboot my hearing aids), but the sound is pretty good. Now I don't have remember to grab the headphones off the charging stand and deal with them moving my hearing aids around in my ears.

Also got a call back after leaving voice mail (!) and got an appointment for an eye exam. Not until February 1st, but at least I'm in the system.

I have the VA hearing aids that I wear only when watching a movie where I cannot hear female voices. Otherwise they stay in the case. They are hard on batteries but you just need to mail in the blue card to get replacements. What a great benefit for veterans.

Mine are rechargeable. Just pop them in the little charger/case on my nightstand at bedtime and it automatically turns them off and charges them up.

Pop them out in the morning and they turn on and are ready to go for the day.

In my case, my hearing loss was due to 1000s of rounds of 7.62, 45, carbine, not to mention artillery, 50 cal machine guns, etc.

Back when ear plugs were not available.
