Two Stroke Dirt Bikes!
Everyone, my brothers dirt bike was stolen from me 12 years ago. The Sheriff's department got it back and returned it.

12 years later, I just got it running again! :-)

Nice! I only had a single two stroke in my riding career. A Yamaha IT175. It had a brutal power band.

I’m not even sure if they make two strokes anymore. Lol.

That is so cool. Love those old 2 strokes. That youtube is music to my ears.

I still keep my old KTM 380EXC 2 stroke around, it's a monster as far as dirt bikes go.

Sure do.. Yamaha still makes YZ250, YZ250X, YZ125, YZ125X 2 strokes dirt bikes.

One of my first programming jobs was for a Honda / Yamaha motor cycle dealership. Yamaha made an 80cc "beginner" bike called the YZinger. I saw more than one father fuck himself up on one when that thing hit the "power band". Two strokes are awesome but not for the feint of heart Big Grin

Nice! Glad you got it running. Two strokes are a blast. My very first motorcycle when I was a teenager was a Yamaha YZ125. Not the bike I’d recommend learning on but once I learned it was a lot of fun. And yes the “power band” was all it claimed to be. Smile

Brings back memories of my YZ 125 and the RD350. Love the sound of a 2-stroke.

I quit riding years ago. I was never really good and had a bad wreck. I would however take that for a trip down some trails! Sounds awesome!

The power band on those old bikes was brutal. Would just about ruin someone without experience.

2 strokes rule. Growing up there was a farmer who sold 400 acres of land to a developer who sat on the land for 12 years so right out my back door I had access to that and way more to ride on. We even built an excellent motocross track that was there for years. Great times.

I went crazy over 2 stroke dirt bikes in the late 60's and 70's. My first one was a Hodaka 100cc Wombat. I then got a Suzuki TM250 and finally a Suzuki TM400. I came close to killing myself on the 400 more than once. 2 strokes are beasts.

Have fun with your Honda. It's a classic.

Jim

I had a 250cc bike that was stolen after I had it rebuilt following a wreck. I hadn't even been on it before it was stolen. Two years later the police called and asked me to come to the station to ID the bike. Sure enough, it was mine but had been painted a different color. The insurance company kept it since I'd been compensated.

Nice story and it is nice you got it running, have fun on it now!

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Excellent. Had a 88 KX 80 when I was a kid. Absolute monster. So much fun but dam dangerous. Made it out alive and never broke anything. I've thought about trying to hunt one down, was a special year. Love the older CRs too. Had a 60 from around that time.

I was strickly forbidden from riding it in the neighborhood or city streets. Like a dog that makes a deal with the electric fence for freedom, I'd say F it fly out onto public roads and even the highway. Just dominated city streets on it. Got some looks for sure. Got punished hard, but it was worth it.

Jimmy, this dirt bike is in excellent condition. It has very few hours on it. It needs the two side covers, but is otherwise in great shape.

I had a 360 8 speed (two stroke) Husqvarna, designed for cross country. I did cross country, motocross, the Widowmaker Hill Climb.

Then one day, about 46 years ago, I sold it, used the proceeds to buy a diamond ring.

I still have the wife, she still has the ring. And, I have some back/knee/hip problems that could have some roots from all my times in the dirt.

And we called the Hodaka 100cc the "Combat Wombat".

I got my start with a Yamaha DT-100 back in the 70’s. Growing up in the rural U.P. of MI I had access to oodles of woods & logging roads.

I moved up to a DT-250, then after my drivers license I traded into a CB-750f. I’ve had a handful since then, currently a CB-1100.

I never did get a YZ dirt bike, though one in our group had one for a while.

Hey Boys, c'mon back, we 2-stroke dirt bikers are still out here!

My 1st motorcycle, a '72 Kawasaki 75, was a 2-stroke, and now I am racing a 2-stroke in the 60+ class. It's more fun than ever, partly because the bikes are so much better--you would be amazed. BurrrrrRRRRRAAAAAPPPPPP!

PS the Hodaka 125s, not the 100s, were the Wombat & Combat Wombat (my family had a Wombat, nice bike for its day).

And that CR80 sounds great, I bet you and your son will have a lot of fun with it.

You are correct. My excuse is that was ~50 years ago, which exceeds my memory's statute of limitations. Smile

Check out the two stroke triple dragbikes. Lovingly referred to as “The Widowmaker’s”.
