Long story. I’ll try to be brief. Worked for same company 26 years. About 6 months ago my boss assigned to a task/project I’m not qualified to do. I had told him I would leave if it happened again.

I immediately looked for internal openings and found an old colleague had a job at same level as I was. I’m well qualified and easily got the job. It wasn’t all fun. I’ve never worked so hard and even considered going back to my old job. To the point of talking to the old boss. My new organization just needed better management. Not a fault of my boss but the team is rebuilding from losing people during covid.

Just as I’m at my wits end boss tells me she is reorganizing the group and wants me as a manager. Had to apply due to HR posting requirements but finally got the offer today. It is a significant increase. Like 25% and I’m already just over 6 figures. The job is actually in the same pay grade as my current position.

Asked my boss how I got so much and she said, “I told HR that we would offer you the same as an outside candidate or you wouldn’t take it.”

Finally after 26 years loyalty is rewarded. Plus I can fix the issues that have me stressed.

That is all. A bit of patting myself on the back. $2k a month extra will help me retire in a few years.

These go to eleven.

A heartfelt congratulations.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congratulations, frayed. It's nice to get the raise and recognition deserved, particularly as a long-time employee.

God bless America.

That’s great! Somewhere someone noticed! I had a similar situation here with a 22% bump without a change in position. Good feeling, savor it.

Workload will be about the same but different in what I’m doing. If I do my job well I will streamline things and it will get easier. I’m in a lead position now so my hours won’t change but I manage to be close to 40 hour work week. But I will need to be flexible in when I work.

These go to eleven.

Congratulations as well. I am glad all your hard work has paid off. People like you are hard to come by these days and need to be rewarded for their work and loyalty when it is due.
